Before we delve into John Murtha’s recent incendiary comments, let’s review what Obama said about people in PA, back in April, as it provides the right context for the Murtha discussion. Obama said at an elitist gathering on the Left Coast…
“Our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there’s not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are going to regenerate and they have not.
“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.“
So in his comments, Obama has set the stage for Murtha’s comments, since he talks of the small town Pennsylvanians “cling(ing) to guns or religion…”. This comment was Obamaspeak for small town Midwesterners being stupid, racist, and redneck.
So the other day, in an effort to bolster Obama’s sentiments, 17-year Democratic Representative John Murtha from Pennsylvania said that his constituents, at least those in Western Pennsylvania are racist. He left no doubt about this, as his actual statement was, “There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area.“
After ‘catching hell’ as we say in the vernacular, for characterizing Pennsylvania’s hard-working blue-collar constituents as racists, Murtha offered his explanation. “What I said, that indicted everybody, that’s not what I meant at all. What I mean is there’s still folks that have a problem voting for someone because they are black.”
I read Murtha’s comment to my dog, a proud Western PA half-Rotty half Lab mutt, and she is still licking her butt to get the taste out of her mouth. He is still calling them racist, he just didn’t use the word!
But Murtha was not finished. He wanted Americans to have complete clarity on his statement. He wanted to further explain that he meant no disrespect to the good people of western PA, you know… and Joe Biden’s neighborhood. Thus, Murtha made the following comment about racism, to WTAE Channel 4 Action News: “It’s difficult for many in the area to change…That just five to ten years ago the entire area was redneck.” Oops!
So what Representative Murtha is saying is there is a Hierarchy of Stupidity for residents of Western Pennsylvania. Apparently you begin as (1) a Redneck, then get promoted to (2) Racist. I’m not privy to the talking points, but I’m guessing the next step is (3) Classist. And borrowing from Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, one is self-actualized with the title of (4) Elitist. Republican’s rarely achieve this title, unless they are “posers”, i.e. Moderates with Liberal leanings [see Colin Powell – http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2008/10/colin-powell-outed.html]
I’d like to say to the good hard-working blue-collar folks of Western PA, if you are Rednecks, then be proud Rednecks. I have lots of Redneck friends, and they are the salt of the earth. I wouldn’t take them to a consulate party, but we tailgate often. And we share our disdain of Obama, the real racist.
So let’s discuss racist for a moment. You see, I think there are fewer racists in America than people thinks. I believe that many so-called racists are in fact just regular people, who have tired of the focus of America being on Blacks. I know I am, and I am Black. I want to be like the Asians, where we just run our businesses, and are concerned with the real issues of life, and not how we can get more for doing less. The fact is there are too many able-bodied “porch sitters” in the Black community, waiting on the 1st and the 15th for Massa to provide.
Most people are tired of people, regardless of color, always bitching about their circumstances, given all that America has to offer. These people, and I am one of them, are true patriots, and believe in the American dream and American values. Now I am not saying that they all want my sons to marry their daughters, and that there is no racism in America, or Western PA for that matter. But what I am saying is that most of these people don’t care who the president is, as long as he or she has real American values, not African values, not Muslim values, not Euro-values, but American values!
Why do Obama and Murtha believe Western PA and Midwestern people are racists? And why do Obama and Murtha wonder why these small town values people are so unwilling to accept Black Jesus as their potential savior? They don’t have an answer, but I do.
Because what you find in “middle America and small town Pennsylvania” is good old fashioned horse sense. Horse sense is something elitists like Obama don’t understand, and never will. Small towners and Midwesterners live by the saying, “my cow died last night, and I don’t need your bull.”
Most of these people have no problem with Obama being Black. And in fact I’d bet you dollars to dog turds that most actually would gladly embrace an “articulate and…clean” Black candidate who actually held their vision of America, and not the socialist version of the “US of KKKA” that Obama, his consorts, and the media have force-fed them for the last two years.
So what don’t Midwesterners like about Obama in reality? Here’s my guess.
They question Obama’s redistribution of wealth program, aka “trickle up poverty” [http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2008/10/messiah-visits-average-joe-satirical.html]. They see it for what it is, which is taking, stealing from the hard-working, blue-collar, small town folks, who have dreams of owning their businesses, and living the American dream. They, like other Americans are tired of being penalized for their dreams superseding Obama’s dream for them. And I can tell you they are pissed about paying for the mistakes of other, like paying for the babies of irresponsible youth, youth who will be turning out in droves to vote for Obama. That is not the dream they, nor anyone else signed up for. Bush is not the “Baby Daddy” of these kids. So why not hold the real “Baby Daddy” responsible. And that is only one example.
They are also tired of paying for America’s so-called poor, who are capable of working and just don’t, providing more excuses than Obama has “uhs”. And they are tired of America’s poor who spend their money on frivolities, such as 5000W car stereo systems, spinning wheels, and gaudy “bling”, and none on educating their kids or investing in businesses. America’s poor has Section 8(a) subsidized housing, socialized medicine (yes, we have socialized medicine!), subsidized food programs, subsidized schools, and a host of other programs. The fact is, it “pays” to be poor in America.
These proud West PA people resent the idea of America being an apologist around the world. And Obama is the biggest apologist in the country, unwilling to explain the true heart of America, a heart so large that we give ten times more to world than all other countries combined. The president is the leader of America, as a parent is the leader of his/her family. Talk bad about my children, and see how I respond. Strike one of my kids, and your burial plot will have a sign saying, “occupied” or as Obama would have it “occupado“. What type of leader do you think Western PAers and Midwester
Further, these good solid Americans of Western PA are concerned with an Obama who socializes with terrorists, like Bill Ayers and Rashid Khalidi, people who have nothing but ill-will towards America, an America that they love. They are concerned at how Obama so easily brushes over his associations with people like Rezko, et al, people from whom he has gotten sweetheart deals on his houses, and who knows what else. They know that Obama’s promise for his America and their America are two different things. Obama will live in his $1.6M home in an exclusive area of Chicago, while providing you with your $80K home in a crime-riddled area. When Obama moves into a “real” American neighborhood, and puts his kids in the same schools as ours, then he can talk to me about improving education, because his kids are in an exclusive private school. You think he is trying to get all American children into the school where his daughters attend?
Finally, you will find that many of these people resent the idea of a person with no qualifications, except resume-building, running their country. Many have seen lesser qualified or talented people be promoted ahead of them, in some cases Blacks and in other cases not. So Obama represents an “in your face” promotion, mainly by the Liberal media of a guy who is in no way qualified to be president of this country. Sure, after two years on the job, weren’t you qualified to run your company?
These people are not racists, they are realists. And they have sickened of the politics of pimping poverty, and the class warfare of rich against poor. Ask the average American to choose between rich and poor, and outside of some elitist who wants to be considered existential or Nietzschesque, most will answer, “Rich!” Given the choice, I choose that long line with “Rich” at the window. It’s lonely in the poor line!
Most people do not want to be rich beyond belief. Most of us just want to not worry about paying bills, and getting some enjoyment out of life, that money can bring. Is there excess in America, yes, and mostly with prominent Democrats. But regardless, if you aspire to be the next Warren Buffet, who is the government to stand in your way. I applaud that type of drive and initiative, and hope I am related to you! Personally I will settle for Kerry or Kennedy money, but then I am a slacker, not setting my sights on Bill Gates money.
The key to the American Dream is pick your level. But if you settle for welfare, and a guy like Obama says he wants to redistribute my wealth to your lazy ass, then I will introduce you to the racist Redneck that lives in me.
So let all us hard working, family-oriented, spiritually-based, gun “will shoot your ass if you break in my house” toting, soccer-coaching, golf-playing, Nascar-loving racist Rednecks UNITE!
That’s my rant!
