Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin Wednesday pleaded not guilty to 21 federal bribery, conspiracy and money laundering charges.

His trial was set for April 29, and Nagin is to remain free until then, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported. Bond was set at $100,000 and Nagin was ordered to surrender his passport and limit his travel to Louisiana and Texas, where he currently lives.

Nagin — a Democrat who was mayor when Hurricane Katrina struck the gulf region in 2005 — was indicted in January on 21 counts, including six counts of bribery, one count of conspiracy, one count of money laundering, nine counts of deprivation of honest services through wire fraud and four counts of filing false tax returns.

The indictment alleges Nagin took bribes and accepted gifts from contractors while he was in office.

Frank Fradella and Rodney Williams — who have pleaded guilty to bribing Nagin to get city contracts — are expected to testify against the former mayor if the case comes to trial, The Times-Picayune reported in January.

Fradella operated Home Solutions of America, described in U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission documents as a hurricane restoration company based in Dallas and New Orleans.

Williams is a former president of Three Fold Consultants LLC, which collected more than $3 million from New Orleans on no-bid contracts during Nagin’s tenure as mayor, the newspaper said.

Nagin left office in 2010 after serving two terms.

Kevin Jackson's hilarious take on Race-Pimping: The Multi-Trillion Dollar Business of Liberalism!

Enjoy this excerpt from the book:

"The money in diversity is enormous, even bigger than former sportscaster turned political pundit turned sportscaster Keith Olbermann’s ego. Wouldn’t you like to be a “reverend” and father children out of wedlock without repercussions? If you study hard, this book will teach you how to have your non-profit organization pay your mistress and your child support – all at the same time. You must be so black that if you eat sushi, watch reruns of Dawson’s Creek and Friends, or enjoy the ballet, you will hang yourself."

The real question is why are they going after him? They pick and choose who the get. J. Jackson Jr. is a perfect example. His Daddy is (in my opinion) not the most honest person in the country but has survived decades. That mistress and love child got many thousands from his slush fund (Oh, yet no conviction? Corzine of NJ hit the BILLION dollar mark in his misdeeds – nothing. Where is the pattern?
