@ Stan's minion - Sorry, I haven't been on the blog for a couple days. To your first point (you added other labels to my list), I strongly agree. Labels are shorthand, and I hate discussions that stick on them because they usually mask the content/ideas behind them. They work well in jokes, though, and as I think we probably both agree, as shorthand.
As for the link, I respect whatever your interpretation is - but, without knowing it, I'm guessing you and I are probably hearing Rush differently. I "hear" (see?) Rush Limbaugh pointing out that General Powell's decision to endorse Obama was a 'political' one, as have been some of his other decisions. I don't see Rush deriding anyone for their race.
It reminds me of a conversation I had with a Greek-American woman I do work for: when she heard that one of her black colleagues was voting for Obama, she said to me, "Well, I'd be kind of a hypocrite if I criticized. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I (and my parents) actually voted for Michael Dukakis when he ran for pres because he's Greek." I did *not* hear her saying that she or Mr. Dukakis were stupid because they were Greek - but rather, that she (and her parents) had acted stupidly in making a decision on the basis of shared ethnicity.

@Fic - Of course I would not be happy for any of my sons to refer to *anyone* as "lowly" anything. I would not be happy if anyone referred to them as "lowly" in any way. (I also don't care for the word "Negro," and I'm guessing - since our guys are 21st century kids - that they've never even thought of using that word.) We and our friends teach our sons respect for others, and I don't think it crosses their mind to act otherwise. Again, I think you're missing Kevin's sarcasm. I think if you lighten up, you might actually laugh: Mr. Jackson is actually pretty funny. (But I know everyone has a different sense of humor...)

First to clarify: My comment about sticking to topic in comments or starting a discussion board was an indirect apology because I felt guilty for my long winded posts. I had also assumed that Kevin would want the comments to stick to the topic as the piece I quoted says. However, as jj repeatedly points out, this is Kevin's blog. It is really up to him so if he hasn't told everyone to stop, I guess that means he doesn't mind.

Now, jj, I think you are clever and witty (albeit crude) but based on what you post here and on your blog, you are not a 'born-again-Christian' by the definition of those who coined and own the term 'born-again-Christian'. You are a non-religious person who probably is pretty sure there is a higher being and has, i'm guessing recently, decided to take an interest in Christianity.

That was not meant to be insulting, but this last post is what crazy liberal anti-Christian folks love to grab onto and say, "See! These so called Christians are hypocrites!" "Listen to how crude and hateful they are!"
To be a Christian you don't have to be perfect, but you do have to believe that EVERY word of the bible is, without a doubt, true.

As a Christian I take offense to you calling yourself such. As a human being, I find you funny as heck and very witty.....don't stop posting!

Ewiak - what the hell kind of name is that - If the Bible was talking about Russia it would have said Russia. If it was talking about Guam it would have said Guam. If the Bible is talking about something everyone who reads it either can't make any sense out of it or else everyone comes up with a different explanation then it very likely the wrong generation reading it. Or else it just makes no sense. The Bible is not God. Making the Bible a deity is as idolatrous as making a statue of the Big Boy a deity. The Bible is a history book. When the Bible says "Jesus took the road to Capernaum" nobody says "This means Jesus took the road to Albuquerque." Either everyone understands it or nobody understands it. And I have yet to meet anyone who understand the Apocalypse the same as anyone else. Now either St. John was a really bad writer - or the wrong people are reading it. When the right people are reading it it will make perfect sense. Trusting God to fix a situation we humans created is presumption. We're here to obey God's laws. He's not here to obey ours.

Ewiak Ryszard - Do you really believe this obscure bible verse fortells the future?
Perhaps you could break out some nostradamus and let me know who is going to win the NL pennant this year so I can put some money on it. Do you speak in tounges, too? Let me know, thanks.

Vote NETANYAHU for president! Since we've apparently nullified the law that only natural born U.S. citizens are eligible to be president of the United States, I am hopeful that Netanyahu can lead two countries at the same time. Any chance you could make NETANYAHU FOR PRESIDENT 2010 bumber stickers to sell, Kevin?

Iran should not arouse concern. Georgia is the most dangerous flashpoint in Russia's tense relations with the West. The Bible says: "At the appointed time [the king of the north = Russia] will return back [will regain the influence, which it lost after the break-up of the Soviet Union] and come into the south [many indicate that this might be Georgia], but it will not be as the former [1921] or as the latter [2008]. For the dwellers of coastlands of Kittim [the West] will come against him, and he will be humbled, and will return." (Daniel 11:29,30a) Then Iran will be humbled also. "But ships will come from the direction of Kittim, troubling Asshur [Russia] and troubling Eber [inhabiting on the other side the Euphrates]." (Numbers 24:24a, BBE)

At that time, peace will be taken from the earth and the "great sword" - nuclear sword - will be used. (Revelation 6:4) However, it will be neither the great tribulation nor "the end of the world" (Armageddon). As Jesus foretold, that will be "the beginning of birth pains". (Mathew 24:7,8)

If the Heavens planned a full return of Russia (and much suggests this) the present economic crisis will deepen. Then also the European Union and NATO will not stands.

"everyone has a problem with the jews. they’re the most tractable….let me put that a different way: they dont start trouble. they dont want to “rule the world” like everyone says. it would never occur to them. and if they did rule the world, why would that be a problem: everyone would be playing the violin, conducting orchestras, doing physics, and being exasperating. That aint too hard to deal with."

JJ wins the thread. :)
