Romney Gets Last Laugh, by Kevin Jackson

Republicans are supposed to be heartless rich people.  The recent comment by Romney regarding his lack of concern for the “very poor” allowed the Left to certainly portray him as a black-hearted Republican aristocrat.  The problem for the Left is Romney is right.

When House Republicans have to pass H.R. 3567 to prevent welfare recipients from using their “payments” in strip clubs, casinos and liquor stores, I’d say that America has done a remarkable job in taking care of our very poor.

America’s safety net is so securely woven that approximately 49 percent of Americans are now firmly secure therein. The fibers of the netting are finally showing signs of wear, however, because the safety net is no longer helping the truly helpless.

This is because Liberals have changed the definition of helpless from those who cannot do for themselves due to physical or mental illness, to those who refuse to do for themselves due to laziness.

Almost all Americans know of somebody taking advantage of the system. Hollywood will occasionally expose the guy training for Krav Maga while drawing his union disability. Or what about the person feigning “mental anguish” because of the increased workload; and there are myriads of other excuses people give these days to get something for nothing. Nevertheless, the Left is quick to compare America in all ways to other nations, except poverty.

When you consider that almost half the world’s population, over 3 billion people, lives on less than $2.50 a day, one would find America’s definition of poverty laughable. Our welfare system is tantamount to hitting the lottery for an immigrant, if we use a “world” standard.

In 1990, this was poor in America was defined as:

“…there are some 31 million to 32 million poor Americans, a number greater than in 1965 when the War on Poverty began.”

* 38 percent of the persons whom the Census Bureau identifies as “poor” own their own homes with a median value of $39,200.

* 62 percent of “poor” households own a car; 14 percent own two or more cars.

“Poor” Americans today are better housed, better fed, and own more property than did the average U.S. citizen throughout much...

“Sexy Brilliance brings levity to the political discourse in this country. I put a comedic spin on what's happening in America, and showcases the ironies and hypocrisies of politics in America.”

Buy_now
of the 20th Century. In 1988, the per capita expenditures of the lowest income fifth of the U.S. population exceeded the per capita expenditures of the median American household in 1955, after adjusting for inflation.

As the last paragraph of that report suggested in 1990 no less, the poor in America at that time had eclipsed what was defined as middle-class America of the 1950s. And what may be more startling is the aforementioned statistics didn’t account for everything that the poor were receiving “in kind” in 1990.

Out of $184 billion in welfare spending, the Census counts only $27 billion as income for poor persons. The bulk of the welfare system, including entire programs that provide non-cash aid to the poor, like food stamps, public housing, and Medicaid, is completely ignored in the Census Bureau’s calculations of the living standards of the “poor.” The missing welfare spending that is excluded from the Census Bureau poverty reports comes to $158 billion, or over $11,120 for every “poor” U.S. household.

How we have allowed the Left to determine what the standard is for poor is. Because I don’t believe that our poor would be considered poor in any other country. Further, I would ask the Left what country they would prefer America’s poor to be poor in? Rwanda? Cuba?

Have you ever heard anyone refer to The French Dream, The German Dream, The European Dream, how about any dream, except The American Dream—a phrase known all over the world.

The American Dream is unique; sought after by every nationality on the planet. In America, you can be whatever your heart desires, as that is The American Dream. Yet we’ve allowed the Left to denigrate the American Dream. If we don’t provide our poor with manicures, game boys, and cars with spinning rims, we’re un-American, according to the Left. Well that’s not the world’s standard.

Should America raise the standard of poverty, certainly. But the taxpayers are not tools of politicians to indulge the whims of the poor. America was built on helping hands, not helping handouts.

That’s my rant!

Romney gets the last laugh on the tea party. The last man the tea party wanted as the republican nominee has crushed all of the conservative candidates. Hell, conservatives don't even want conservatives candidates. According to the mormon religion, to get into heaven a mormon must bring you in. The tea party better make nice with Romney.

ant says:
February 6, 2012 at 11:23 pm

Explain, please? Here, I'll help you, A strawman is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponents position. To 'attack' that fallacy, one would suggest a superficial version of an opponents point or position, like taking it out of context or omitting key truths in the original, and then proceed to attack the fallacy (or created superficial point) as if it was their opponents when it was actually a created (false) position or policy.

Such as, A candidate that says we should focus on the middle-class(the truly working poor) and twisting it into an attack on the 'welfare' poor, or A candidate that points out the truth of a President that has had watch over a record 'Food Stamp' population and gets called a 'racist'. Or even better..that it's not true..when it most certainly is.

ant says:
February 6, 2012 at 11:26 pm

So, peaches, tell me.. where is the 'attack the strawman' here? Smoke another bowl or two..there's time.

ant says:
February 7, 2012 at 12:48 am

You're right DS, most conservatives are very unhappy with the majority of our so-called leaders. Further proof that it's all gamed by the establishment and there is now no doubt that Mr. Hope and Change is part of the same and the only change he brought to Washington was a quicker and bigger government-corporate client-cronyism. It will be up to the People to fix it. So you can stick with your Democrats and go down with the ship or actually be an American.

Middle Thinker says:
February 7, 2012 at 2:10 am

Conservatives (basically tea party members) must be a pretty lonely, bitter, and frustrated bunch. Even leaders within the Tea Party factions are saying their "movement" is dead, like Patricia Murray. Maybe they finally realized their "movement" was hijacked by moderate repbulicans and big money behind the scenes to gain a footing in Congress, then discarded and left by the wayside. The Tea Party has had no influence in the GOP nominations in 2012. Every candidate is a "moderate" republican, except Ron Paul. So if there is a sinking ship, Ant, it's the reality that for all your talk about conservatism as really being American is only heard by you, Kevin, and the other cheerleaders on this baord.

DannyD says:

Thank you for explaining (in your first paragraph, copied and pasted from Wikipedia) GOP political strategy dating back to yo grandaddy, Nixon. And in that sense we can see that the GOP (see Dick Armey) invention of the glorious Tea Party was always premised on the strawman argument that liberals are unpatriotic. Being a little slow, you and Kevin haven't quite caught on to the fact that it was just another cynical Rethug sham. Their favorite disguise, as they go about shafting Americans, has always been super-patriot.

As I was driving to work this morning… I passed the same guy I pass almost every morning and every evening. He just walks around all day in his $200 jeans. So, I get to the convenience store to buy my little purchase. Now mind you, it is 7:30 AM……… he puts his 40 on the counter and gets a pack of cigs……..and walks back up the hill. The store manager said something about "it's too bad we don't know how to work the system"…. to which I replied. I know how… I just choose NOT to.

Kevin, have you ever lived abroad? The cost of living tends to be much higher in richer countries than poorer ones. I worked for two years in Guatemala (a pretty poor country) and I can tell you $2.50 goes a lot further there than it does here. In the DC area its impossible to spend that little on gas, parking and public transportation (right now I live in MD and work in VA, but the same held true when I worked in DC).

Let's revisit the Rethuglican playbook (real voter fraud versus stupid voter registration mistakes that the Rethugs have made such a big freakin deal about—see ACORN)):

(Feb. 6th PoliticalHotSheet) Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White — the man charged with upholding election integrity in Indiana — was convicted of six felonies on Saturday, including three counts of voter fraud, two counts of perjury and one count of theft.
White, a Republican, could face up to three years in prison for each of the counts, the Indianapolis Star reports, and will be sentenced on February 23.

Lloyd says:
February 7, 2012 at 10:07 pm

My mother worked at a state office in Waco in the '80's and asked a women there why she did not get a job. The woman's reply was that she had a "job" reading all the new laws and discerning which programs applied and which did not. Then she would come to the offices and typically have to explain the new laws to the state aid workers in order to receive her full benefits, which, by the way, were tax free. Getting a job would also not pay nearly as well as the assistance programs. Unfortunately, when the government runs programs, there is no real way to tell who needs the benefits and who does not, hence there will always be welfare "fraud".

Middle Thinker says:
February 7, 2012 at 11:22 pm

Speaking of Acorn, they have just as much Republican support as Democrats:

(1) John McCain gave a speech at a Acorn meeting giving them credit for their voter registration drives.

(2) Four Republican governors signed legislation the group to increase minority home ownership: Tim Pawlenty (Minnesota), Rick Perry (Texas), Mitt Romney, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

ant says:
February 8, 2012 at 12:04 am

And yet, YOU, Middle, by virtue of bringing this up, know that ACORN is involved in fraud, or you wouldn't have brought it up as derogatory involvement by Republicans, and YOU, Middle, will still support and vote for those who are on their side. So where does that leave you, pal? Thanks for your help, jackass.

ant says:
February 8, 2012 at 12:09 am

Thanks for pointing out that the working class has no disposable income thanks to your Dimocrats. Obama's State Department buys 20,000 copies of his 'ghost-written' book..conservatives can't afford to stock their shelves, too busy paying for free-loaders' alchohol, drugs, and strippers. I work..how do you make your money?

ant says:

Wow! Someone in politics ACTUALLY going to jail for a crime.. you know it had to be a Republican. A Dimocrat would have just been 're-assigned' to a higher office.

ant says:
February 8, 2012 at 2:53 am

BTW, dumb-ass, there are many good Republicans out there, doing what they are supposed to and busting stones to get to the truth and what's good for the People. But McCain, Romney, and Schwarzenegger ain't none of them.

Republicans wanting to increase minority home ownership, huh? Doesn't that counter your sides argument that they hate blacks and the poor…crush your own lies just to make a point, right? So libtypical. Now was this through ACORN exclusively or Dodd-Franks baby, Freddie Mac? Can you be more specific or are you just talking out your ass as your usual useless self usually uselessly brings up useless stuff?

DannyD says:
February 8, 2012 at 10:09 am

Would you please be kind enough to name these "good Republicans"?

Downsouth says:
February 8, 2012 at 10:12 am

ant, if conservatives are "very unhappy", the republican primary is the best opportunity to show it. If the "establishment" is controlling the vote, than obviously that's what republican voter want. The "establishment" can not make people vote one way or another. I know you want to blame Mr. Hope and Change for everything, but he has nothing to do with republicans not voting for conservatives.

Downsouth says:
February 8, 2012 at 10:24 am

ant, if Romney "ain't none of them", who are you going to vote for in the fall? If Romney "ain't none of them", what are republicans thinking making him the republican nominee for president?

Lloyd says:
February 8, 2012 at 3:01 pm

As the statistics reveal, the middle class is eroding away. Soon enough, "poor progressives, poor liberals, poor conservative, poor _________, will be voting.

DannD says:
February 8, 2012 at 3:48 pm

If Rethuglicans had their way, the poor would also be too uneducated to know what the fuck is going on. The Rethugs are now approaching this problem of demographics that are unfavorable to their re-election, with a two-pronged attack. De-fund education/scholarships, etc. and suppress the vote. The two go hand-in-hand. But we won't let them get away with it.

ant says:
February 8, 2012 at 9:21 pm

Liberals, the kings of extrapolation.

ant says:
February 8, 2012 at 9:23 pm

Now, there you go, pal. THAT is a 'strawman argument'. I knew you could do it.

ant says:
February 8, 2012 at 9:24 pm

Pointless. Pearls at swine.

ant says:
February 8, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Fail. I'm gonna have to now downgrade your mark. From AAA to AA…at least it's another thing that you and Obama have in common. By your deluded standard, every statement would be a 'strawman'. What Kevin says is not only not a distortion of a particular opponent's statement or policy, but is his observation, not a false depiction. I, myself, have seen people who could not speak English buy groceries on SNAP and then load them into a new SUV, while speaking on a cell-phone. For a real example of a 'strawman' see your own remarks about Rethuglicans attacking the poor in terms of education and voting. All the worst schools are in historically Dimocrat run administrations, most of the corruption and embezzlement of funds meant for schools are committed by black Dimocrats here……explain that.

Then you were crying about your posts getting deleted and said you weren't coming back.

All this "Useless" stuff I post just drives the point that all the things you say about Democrats Republicans are doing also.

It must be rough getting outdebated on your own turf, huh Ant.

Middle Thinker says:
February 9, 2012 at 1:49 am

The credit rating went down, according to the report was because of too much emphasis on cutting spending and not enough on raising revenues. Sounds like that was the Tea Party's fault.

President Obama gave the Republican Congress a higher amount of tax cuts and they left the deal on the table to settle for a lesser amount. But you say nothing about this.

Can you explain why Southern States are run by Republicans are last in education and first in poverty?

As for Welfare, I ask this question: when Republicans were in power, how come they did not defund welfare?

None conservtive on any baord I post on has ever answered that question. I guess that is liberals fault too, right?

ant says:
February 9, 2012 at 9:49 am

I guess it would be if I were actually being out-debated. I don't think libtards dropping off little turds here and there like a puppy that hasn't been house-broken can be defined as 'debating'. And make no mistake, everything you and Peaches here leave is 'useless', You know why I don't loiter around lefty sites, trolling for reactions? Because it's useless, pointless and sad, really. Just as sad as anyone over the age of 30 being a raging libtard.

Lloyd says:
February 9, 2012 at 1:51 pm

The credit rating went down because of high debt. Invreased taxes would help, but spending must also be controlled. Lenders know that temporary program cuts will not stay in place and our politicians have no spine when it comes to tough decisions. Lenders also know that it has been over 3 years since we have had a budget. It is easier to steal from those who do not have a vote than it is to take away from those that do have a vote. The answer to the welfare question is similar to the debt answer, no spine to reduce or eliminate. Education can not be explained away, however, since the advent of the DOE we have gone as a nation from the envy of the world to the laughing stock.
The "increased revenues" refered to is actually and increase in taxes on the wealthy. This is item 2 in the short term demands of the communist manifesto. Free public education is item 10. The credit crisis and subsequest Dodd/Frank bill relate to item 5.

Lloyd says:
February 9, 2012 at 1:53 pm

Time for the Spoof and Troof

I am a Republican (ala the 50's – that party no longer exists ), I vote for the individual if there is a decent choice in either party, a rarity, but …….
12 REASONS TO VOTE DEMOCRAT

When your family or friends cannot explain why they voted Democrat, give
them this list. Then they can then pick a reason from this "TOP 12"..

1. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a
gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of
gas at 15% isn't.

2. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better
job of spending the money I earn than I would.

3. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody
is offended by it.

4. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and
I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers
and thieves.

Guest woman says:
February 13, 2012 at 12:47 pm

5. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if
it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt
away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

Guest woman says:
February 13, 2012 at 1:19 pm

6. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies
being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

7. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free
health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take
away the social security from those who paid into it.

8. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be
allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give
the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see
fit.

9. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the
Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never
get their agendas past the voters.

Guest woman says:
February 13, 2012 at 1:20 pm

10.. I voted Democrat because I think that it's better to pay billions
to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill our own because it
might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish.

11. I voted Democrat because while we live in the greatest, most
wonderful country in the world, I was promised "HOPE AND CHANGE".

12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my backside,
it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

Logic, actually – not that there's any difference between the two where you're concerned.

DannyD says:

Every time I see a clip of the lovely, refreshing first lady, I again realize how sad and miserable you righty teabagger haters are.
Which reminds me—I've coined a new word!! Look for it in the urban dictionary: SACKSUCKSFUL Used in a sentence:

Seeing the bank that other sacksucksful teabagger hate-freaks were pulling down, the black white supremacist skin-head negro worked even harder to be sacksucksful.

Great word, Danny!

blknred says:

typical liberal post. Make up something, try and validate it with inaccurate facts, make it extremely wordy, and be the only one that laughs at their failed attempt at a joke that is patently racist..

DannyD says:
February 16, 2012 at 9:36 am

Thanks, Franny. I felt the need to create a word that accurately describes the adulation and grift involved in this whole Rethuglican "Tea Party" charade as these confused and hateful acolyte schlubs have corporate CEO sacks dipped in their yappers before they are stabbed in the back by same Rethuglican "Tea Party". Thanks, again.

ant says:

We're only trying to raise $40,000 so we can have brunch with the 'warrior of the working class'. I need to ask The Won about the expense and carbon footprint of the First Mooch travelling around in a jet to promote her "Everybody's fat behind butt mine' Tour. Maybe too, drop in on Pelousy at her fund-raising dinner in the house of the Fat-cats who ordered 'Occupy' be shut down…God bless her.

You can get lots of good advice from Dims, like how to shelve legislation in exchange for gifts and IPO's, or how to buy farmland real cheap and then sell it back to the taxpayers at great profit when you are the only one privy to insider development plans by virtue of being in Congress.

ant says:
February 16, 2012 at 11:54 am

Maxine Waters could tell us how to lay hands on stimulus funds for your husbands bank. Rangel and Kerry could both tell us how to avoid the taxes they write for everyone else to pay. Obama just loves himself some lobbyists and corporate cronies…so much, he gives them jobs in his administration. On the flip side, his administration, like Maoist Anita Dunn can get a cool gig with hedge-fund management, despite, supposedly, being against them. Pelousy could tell us how neato it is to hire 'illegal aliens' and then write a Bill that excuses those who employ 'illegal foreign trespassers' from having to provide any sort of health-related reimbursement. Or maybe, instead of doing it for free, out of love of country and liberty, the TeaPartiers could get paid $60 a day, just like the Occupeers. Whatda ya think?

ant says:
February 16, 2012 at 12:01 pm

Oh, I know. Speaking of having someone 'dip in your mouth'. We could have a President authorize people to walk through airport machines and get irradiated, thereby, by new estimates, causing at least 100 American citizens to develop cancer every year. If we made them mandatory in every airport, our pal Soros stands to make a nice profit..as he invested in them, ironically, before they were to be used extensively…just a coincidence I'm sure. Like I'm sure the fact that he was invested in Brazilian oil interests had nothing to do with the big fat loan that Obama procurred for Brazilian Oil.

DannyD says:

No wonder you have been awarded the bold blue letters and pretty little gold oval, blackenedredfish, you see right through me!

DannyD says:
February 16, 2012 at 7:50 pm

P.S. I do believe that facts are facts. I mean to say that, by definition, a fact is accurate. There may be instances of inaccurate claims or assertions, but I'm pretty sure a fact is a fact… And I've never been more sure of anything when I say that you teabaggers, by definition, suck sack.

DannyD says:
February 16, 2012 at 7:56 pm

Well, sac, you're first comment certainly holds all the creativity and intrigue that I've come to expect from a teabagger. Please come back any time!

DannyD says:
February 16, 2012 at 8:27 pm

Oh my, a typical jingoistic pass around RETHUG email. How charming and original, GW!

DannyD says:
February 16, 2012 at 8:47 pm

With all the sheeite going on in the world, you people are going batshit over birth control. What a bunch of psychotics.

ant says:
February 16, 2012 at 11:38 pm

If you knew anything..besides the smell of your own ass..you'd know your statement is another one of your lies. What "sheeite going on in the world"? Explain.

ant says:
February 16, 2012 at 11:41 pm

Forget about it, unless you're a complete jackass like DannyD, with nothing to offer but inane stupidity and vulgarity, your posts will most likely not appear or be deleted. This blog is apparently reserved for one-liner asshattery from Danny and Franny.

ant says:
February 17, 2012 at 12:07 am

I know why you, DannyD, Peaches,… whoever, BTW, leave these brief, supposed 'cutting', 'clever', insulting remarks here and there like so much dog droppings. To you guys, you think you're 'poking' or making an impact, that you're all so clever and cute. But I know the truth. You have no arguments. You have no positions you can defend, nor can you defend your own 'sides's' policies or acts. You all know you will lose any argument or debate here. You are fools..running and hiding. Uneducated and ignorant…you're functional morons with a laptop, basically. Your pathetic little 'urchin' persona will only get you so far..it's a shame, I see great suffering in life ahead for you. None of you really even know who you are or what you believe or you would have suggested some idea that rises to at least above 4th grade level. All you know is hate, and you can't even express why you hate, you've just been taught to..sad really. Life is hard enough..without throwing stupid into the mix.

Michelle says:

I know this is kind of late but good grief DannyD, hate much? Admit it, you're one of Kevin's lazy ass relatives who resent him for not giving you some of his hard-earned cash, aren't you?

Dana says:
February 23, 2012 at 12:11 pm

See here's the difference in conservatives and liberals. Conservatives won't support these thugs even if the thugs are conservatives – but liberals support ALL thugs as long as they claim to be liberal.
To liberals the definition of crime is relative; it depends on who commits the crime.

Dana says:
February 23, 2012 at 12:18 pm

Priceless. And look at how it made the lib trolls' heads spin!! You can always tell when they're suffering from logic meltdown when they answer with a vacant one liner!

Dana says:
February 23, 2012 at 12:25 pm

You people make me laugh. Do any of you really think "your guy" is your friend. Not a one of them gives a rats ass about our country; we are nothing more than votes to them.
