//  Steele Needs to Step Up

Posted on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 by Kevin Jackson

51221704AW033_GOP_ConventioBuy The BIG Black Lie if you are sick of being called a racist, and you want to watch liberals scurry and run!  It’s up for awards already!  Thanks for the support of my blog and what I do.

Let me speak for conservatives who are afraid to say the obvious:  Michael Steele is a bitter disappointment as RNC chair.  Like many others, I had high hopes for Steele, however Steele is little more than a cheap alloy, and not “steel” at all.  He is smart and articulate, and as the first black Vice-President Joe Biden would say, “That Negro is clean!”  Maybe there is still hope?

Admittedly I voted for Steele as Chairman of the RNC because he is black.  There.  I said it for all you who were thinking it.  I pulled that one right from the playbook of the liberal ignoramuses—the intelligentsia.”  However, unlike the racist who voted for Obama because he was “sorta” black, I am not racist at all.

My vote for Steele was really a “black guilt” vote for racist Democrats whose policies did not allow for the rise of a black RNC chairman until now.  Like most of the non-black Democrats who voted for Obama, this black conservative I am sad to say is underwhelmed by Steele thus far.

I became a fan of Steele, when he was on Fox doing commentary.  I found him quite affable, and he fooled me into believing he was a true conservative.   He is not—as he has demonstrated on more than one occasion—preferring to come off as too likable a guy to the Left.  I don’t want the Left to like the RNC chairman.  I want them to fear him!

What disappoints me most is Steele has no appetite, no passion for giving the Left serious beatdowns.  Steele is the black version of “more of the same,” when he is suppose to be Shaft.  The Left is attempting to destroy the best country in the world, and Steele is throwing rocks in a gun fight.  The people elected Steele to take on racism—and other crazy Leftisms—in a full frontal attack.

“Not wearing your cup, Lefty?”  [POW!] (swift kick to the crotch by the man of Steele…exit stage Right!)

Steele was elected to set the record straight about the Republican Party—from the perspective of a learned black man.  He was to show the world that, unlike what racist Democrats would like us to think about black folks, there are blacks who come packaged with intelligence, drive, passion, enthusiasm, work ethic, and other conservative values.  We are not all stupid liberals.  We don’t all have our pants hanging down below our butts,...

22622_cover_front

“Sexy Brilliance brings levity to the political discourse in this country. I put a comedic spin on what's happening in America, and showcases the ironies and hypocrisies of politics in America.”

Buy_now
and walk around holding our “packages”.  We do not all want to drive Escalades, and have a record label.  Nor do most of us want to collect our “gubment” checks, unless we happen to work for the evil empire.  Simply put, there are many blacks who know that if we are victims, then we are most likely victims of ourselves…not America!

Steele missed a glorious opportunity during the Tea Parties, when Janeane Garofalo decided to become the self-proclaimed protector of the lowly Negro, calling Tea Party goers racists.  Steele should have been all over TV, giving an Ike Turner beatdown to that Hollywood huckster.  He could have gotten amazing face time on most networks extolling the virtues of the conservative movement, educating people of the history of Republicans in the battle for Civil Rights, and exposing the Democrats for whom they are…racist elitists users of black people.  But Steele was nowhere to be found.

Obama has given Steele many opportunities to confront racism, in that America has not been more racially polarized since the ‘60’s.  Obama gleefully ushers back the Democrat legacy of oppression and segregation, and is proof of a black man doing the bidding of his racist Democrat white handlers.  Like dismissing the intimidation case of the Black Panthers at the polling precinct.  That reeked of racism and hypocrisy.  Black Panthers intimidating white Republicans from voting—white Republicans being the group who freed blacks.  How much traction could Steele have gotten with that?!

Here’s the wrap:

hardcore conservativeIt’s time for Steele to step up or step out.  This weak-kneed, ankle-grabbing approach is not going to energize the base, nor will it provide outreach into the black community.   Black people need to know the truth about their captors–slave owners known as Democrats.  They need to know how the Democrats are playing them, and have the game explained.

If Steele starts fighting like a man, and not like a sissy, then he will unleash those hidden conservative voices in the black community.  Dissemination of the facts to blacks will give closeted conservative blacks a softer place to land.  A tougher stand will empower non-black conservatives, who are tired of being called racists and elitists.   I know this, because these are the people buying my book The BIG Black Lie (shameless plug).

Conservatives simply want someone with a voice to stand up for us, and do so with passion and fire.  Is that not too much to ask?  That the truth be told?

That’s my rant!

Smart and honest rant, Kevin. I had great hopes for Steele, as well. I want to see and feel the passion; we need real GOP leadership. I want to scream when people talk about leaving the party when it’s not the party that’s at fault– it stands for precisely the right things. We just need strong enough leaders to bring it back- people who are capable of seeing things as they are with all due urgency, and convey that. The only person I’ve seen speak out lately whose sense of outrage echoes mine, while remaining sane, credible, and articulate, is Jon Voight. Who’da thought?

Thanks for the great article, as always.

I too agree that the Man of Steele has been sipping Kryptonite cocktails. Something has happened to his ability to say what he means and mean what he says. I used to watch him as well as one of the talking heads and now he has gone all “John McCain” on us.

In some respects Kevin the conservative movement has been all to silent on confrontation with the exception of bloggers. George W. Bush ushered in this defensive posturing. The others are just falling in line. All of these leaders need to attend the school of kicking ass and taking names. I think that we can better respect a leader who is hard nosed and tough on stupid issues and ideas versus one that is wishy washy and tries to appeal to both sides of the fence with abhorrent rhetoric. Liberals don’t do that. They go after their core and to hell with anyone that disagrees.

We need a John Wayne/George Patton approach to turning this slide around. But since they are no longer available we have to find these type of leaders.

Well said! The Left should gaze fearfully at the RNC Chair, not want to sit down and have a latte with him.

Mike G says:
July 9, 2009 at 8:32 pm

I think Steele has the upper-hand, and doesn’t even know it. I mean how much more could the Democrats mess up than they’re doing right now. If I was head of the RNC I would be dropping bombs like Hiroshima. I supported him when he came out too. I remember seeing him on Hannity getting vocal about defending Bush and killing terrorist. Ever since he took his new position I have literally seen him once on TV giving a speech. We need someone to get up, and say how it’s really is going down. Some style would help with pulling in some Independents who are weary of the current administration. If the Republicans can get a hold of the Independent votes they can win next time around. Steele just is not making the grade, and taking advantage of the situation at hand.

We need some charisma, and some bold leadership. Also, finding someone who is more closely related with the new generation needs to emerge. People these days judge people by their appearance. They want someone who is cool in their eyes. I know it sounds corny. That’s just how it is these days. I am not even talking about the person necessarily picked to run for President. It’s having Republicans out there that people can relate too. Going on TV shows, putting out music, making movies, and so on. They don’t need to stray from their principals at all, it’s a matter of incorporating them into popular culture cleverly. A good example, would be rappers love of making money. That’s Capitalism to the max. I know for sure their lifestyles have nothing to do with Socialism. Except for family members begging for money. We know how much celebrities, and rappers hate sharing their money. Republicans have to be able to explain these concepts in a way the common guy you run into on the street can understand. That’s the key in my opinion.

Lisa says:

As a Republican from Maryland, I was pulling for Steele. Oh, well. It looks like he immediately got caught up in the Republican good old boy way of doing things and is afraid to make the old guard mad at him.

Kevin-you are so right on again. I had such high hopes for Steele, but he is being too damn nice. So glad to see that Sarah Palin hadsthe handcuffs off now. At least she has balls!
Never send a man to do a woman’s job.
Except for you of course Kevin. When are you going to run for office? I would campaign for you tirelessly if you came to IL. Hey Zero wasn’t a native and HE got elected. At least you are American to the core!
I am still looking for you on your book tour too.

Race – Being a WASP from Montgomery, Alabama no less, I can tell you that the very subject makes me queasy. Not because I owned slaves and I fear uprising, for I am not quite that old. It is such as way of life in Montgomery that I had to flee the city some six years ago. There were many other reasons, among them being a productive geographic move for employment, but I was glad to put the issue behind me, at least as it presented itself in the morning paper, the morning newscast, and the morning talk radio as I drove to work. I simply tire of the assault on the rich white guy while the left wing black guy raises everyone’s taxes and stirs the pot. It isn’t that I believe there to be no racism in America, but when you are on the front lines screaming racism and the very party you support is standing in the back picking your pocket, it becomes tiresome.

However, I was encouraged my Steele’s nomination. Again, due to my geographic rearing, I cynically supposed the nomination to be a political move against the first black President. I was hoping that the GOP and Steele would do as you suggested and stand up and refute the assertions from the left and from the media to immediately neutralize the issue…oooops, sorry! That was redundant.

I am sorely disappointed. The GOP clearly STILL does not get it. They don’t know why they are losing and they don’t know why the left is attracting new voters in droves. Keep it up, Kevin. People need to hear this view.

Steele is Mike Duncan part 2 another MIA Chairman. Good for you Kevin, you are not alone many voted for Steele and Obama, because of race. Personally I … Read Morevoted for Ken Blackwell for RNC and McCain, because the only viable candidate against Obama, Romney was destroyed my Dr Dobson’s rantings. I actually voted against Obama, not because he is black, but because he was not qualified, he never did anything but run for office and he and his wife clearly despise what America stands for. Hi Kevin,

Just sent Steele an email this week basically telling him to knock it off worrying about Palin in 2012 and to get on with fixing the RNC.

He has no focus yet. Wants to be all things to all republicans. Others here are right, I listened to him previously and thought he was pretty good but now he is wishy-washy like a moderate.

Love your site, keep up the great job!

Right now the Rs need someone who will bring us together and lead us into the battle, but no one is going to follow you when you are not moving. As I’ve said on other occasions, we have enough pols who are “concerned” about the direction of our country. We need some who are “mad as hell and not going to take it any more!” If that would be Michael Steele… great!

Kevin,

Nice website. I got here from the TH website post that you made on Prelutsky’s column today. I too am disappointed with Steele. He got nutered along the way. Maybe he can grow some back but he needs to do it in short order.

Us conservatives need not take any prisoners. Playing nice has gotten us where we are today. It doesn’t work and it never did. The American people will respond positively to someone that will just stand-up and speak the truth no matter what flavor they are.

The audiences for Conservative Talk Radio programs are growing by leaps and bounds. The evidence is crystal clear that our fellow citizens will embrace a no-nonsense leader.

Please do keep up the good work.

former bond trader says:

Kevin:

I have to agree. Steele is, in my opinion, one of those people that is too worried about people liking him. He started out soft, did start ramping it up a bit, but then has fizzled. I had thought he would be good because he did come across good on TV. It does sound shallow, but we need more photogenic, presentable people in the party. I still cannot get over how McCain came across. We had better not make that stupid mistake again.

He had a great chance to do a media smackdown on Garofalo. If he had come on a program with her on and let her have it, she would have melted like butter. She is just a soft liberal that is good at preaching to the choir.

Steele also had a great chance to nail D.L Hughley, who compared the 2008 Republican convention to “Nazi Germany”, a blatantly racist statement, that would have been jumped on if the races had been switched. I heard that and thought, ” You mean, they are all Germans??” Steele just seemed to acknowledge it and move on. He didn’t agree with it, but didn’t want to upset anyone. Steele did nail him when he brought up the oppostion to Obama and mentioned that “You guys went after Bush for 8 yrs”. We need more of that out of him.

The liberal have the upper hand in the media and in Congress, so we have to be that more aggresive. In boxing, the fighter who enters as champ or with a higher ranking usually gets any close decisions. We have to think like a fighter who does not want to “leave it to the judges”.
That’s right, baby, I am talking knock out. The only real way to keep it from the scorecards.

Dubious Brother says:
July 10, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Sarah Palin could have come across as a token woman candidate but despite the muzzle that McCains’s camp put on her, she proved that she had the stones to stand up to the insane left in and out of the party and continues to do so.

Michael Steele on the other hand is acting the part of the token black instead of the conservative Republican (skin color aside). He needs to learn quickly that he is there because of his conservative values and not his skin color. He needs to show his true colors (npi) if he really is a true conservative leader or step aside.

Jess says:
July 10, 2009 at 7:10 pm

I had a strong hope for Steele, and have been disappointed he hasn’t gone on the defensive. While he has the right ideas, and the knowledge, he needs to learn to kick in the balls in this dirty war of ideological beliefs. Kick them until their down, and kick them when they’re down. Destroy the willingness of your foe to fight.

deb says:

Kevin, I too had high hopes for Steele He is elegant , warm and personable and smart. Sadly his is a story of missed opportunities. However I see something in his eyes that seems to be holding him back from a full-court press against libs. I KNOW he feels exactly the way you and I do but he’s trying to walk that razor thin line of trying to appeal to everyone on the Republican political spectrum. If only he had the kahunas to take a concrete position, people would sit up and take notice!

Laura Hazen says:
July 10, 2009 at 11:59 pm

Principlex says:
July 11, 2009 at 6:46 am

Right now, the position Steele holds is the most important in the Republican Party. As you portray the possibility of a bold spokesman for the conservative position, proud of the accomplishments in matters of race (individual rights), free minds and markets, and an undiluted stand-for-freedom for all individuals and a strong defense in foreign policy it would be easy to attract independents and Democrats as the Obama presidency falters on the flabby immoral ethics of forcing people to be “good” people. There’s a big difference between wanting to be liked and being admired. Yes, the latter is risky so whoever is going to be a leader has to enjoy taking those risks.

Keep advocating that difference and someone will step up when he knows he has backers and a chance to win at being that. At this point, the entire culture is corrupt. Are the heroes in the closet?

The problem with Steele and the Republican party has everything to do with leadership. It’s quite clear this middle of the road pandering is neither drawing moderates or energizing the base. When your strategy isn’t working you need to change it. It’s time to move farther right of center, enter the realm of debate and work on changing the minds of America instead of trying to follow them.
