Carnegie Mellon Parade Includes Blasphemy

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a highly respected institution located in Oakland, PA – a few short miles from the city of Pittsburgh.

It neighbors the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University; 2 prestigious institutions in their own right. Barack Obama and Joe Biden love CMU, and both made stops at the campus to speak before enthusiastic progressive supporters during their 2008 and 2012 Presidential campaigns.

CMU is best known and most respected for their high educational standards….except for the latest stunt from one of their apparent art students.

A recent annual parade of Fine Arts included a controversial and disrespectful display. A female student was dressed as the Pope – from the waist up – handing out condoms to onlookers. Bad enough, right? But she was naked from the waist down and had shaved the cross into her pubic hair.

Several students and onlookers were quoted to the local press as saying they thought it was funny and didn’t see any harm in the display. The university, when pressed for a response, said they are reviewing their laws and standards .

The National Catholic League is rightfully alarmed and called for an immediate suspension of the student, calling attention to a recent event when CMU suspended fraternity members for taking sexual pictures inside a frat and emailing them to other members.

The National Catholic League has released a statement:

“If CMU tolerates this incident, invoking no sanctions whatsoever, then it is opening a door it may regret. What if instead of shaved pubic hair in the shape of a cross, a student chooses to depict a swastika?”

The statement further continues:

“CMU’s decision not to suspend this female student, who publicly ridiculed Catholics and violated the local ordinance on public nudity, while invoking sanctions against the frat boys for offensive behavior behind closed doors, is legally problematic and morally indefensible.”

Today, CMU President Jared Cohon issued an apology on behalf of the student, whose name has not been released publicly. In his apology, he states the internal investigation is ongoing.

We’ll see how things play out but as a Christian and a Catholic, I am tired of my religion being mocked and ridiculed. Why do I need to be politically correct where others can say and do such absurd things with no actions being taken against them?

This girl should be at the very least suspended and ultimately, arrested and charged with indecent exposure.

But that may be too much to hope for, since Christians and Christianity remain the lonely outcasts of political correctness, banished from the progressive world of tolerance.
