Why does the government need to know your race when you buy a gun?
The Obama administration quietly has been forcing new gun buyers to declare their race and ethnicity, a policy change that experts say provides little law enforcement value while creating the risk of privacy intrusions and racial profiling.
With little fanfare, the Bureau for Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFE) in 2012 amended its form 4473 – the transactional record the government requires gun purchasers and sellers to fill out when buying a firearm – to identify buyers as either Hispanic, Latino, Indian, Asian, black, Pacific Islander or white.
There is NO reason to know ethnicity in the purchase of a firearm, except for the government to use that data for nefarious reasons. Either create a box that reads “American” or check an ethnicity that is different from what they want. The fact is most Americans are “mixed,” so you won’t be lying.
