US Navy intercepting Iranian weapons

One has to wonder if this will help with the Iranian negotiations, but Obama had to be forced into a corner to authorize this.

According to Navy officials , a US aircraft carrier is headed towards the coast of Yemen intercept Iranian vessels carrying weapons to rebels fighting there. They will join other part of the naval fleet already present.

For some time, the US Navy has been increasing up its presence in the Gulf of Aden and the southern Arabian Sea, in preparation for this interaction. It had been reported that a convoy of Iranian ships could be headed toward Yemen to supply arms to  the Houthis. Government-back fighters are embroiled in intense fighting against the Houthis.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt will join about nine U.S. ships in the region, including cruisers and destroyers carrying teams that can board and search other vessels.

Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the ship movement on the record.

It had been reported earlier from various sources,

The deployment comes after a UN Security Council resolution approved last week imposed an arms embargo on the leaders of the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels. The resolution passed in a 14-0 vote with Russia abstaining.

Navy officials said Monday that the Roosevelt was moving through the Arabian Sea. A massive ship that carries F/A-18 fighter jets, the Roosevelt is seen more of a deterrent and show of force in the region.
