Vision Zero: Liberalism Aptly Named

NYC and its latest lunatic mayor are at it again. The way they would put it: they’re saving lives.

De Blasio launched Vision Zero in 2014, under the guise of saving lives from traffic accidents in New York City. He reduced the speed limit to 25 mph, and upped enforcement, even adding traffic cameras. Violators can face criminal charges, so this is no joke.

There is nothing wrong with the project, and the results speak for themselves. According to City Hall spokeswoman Monica Klein,

“Vision Zero is saving lives. Traffic fatalities are down 22 percent since Vision Zero started, making 2015 the safest year on city streets since record-keeping began.”

Even though I don’t trust government statistics, let’s just take her word for it, for the time being.

We learned that through February of 2016, NYPD officers had handed out 181,892 tickets, a more than 20 percent increase over the same period in 2015 and about the same as in Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s final year in office, 2013.

Guess who the bad guys are?

Not De Blasio, but the cops. So when a cop was filmed handing out one of the tickets, he was recorded as saying, [pp]

“I wouldn’t have voted for him because this is what he wants. He wants us to give out summonses.”

The cop was placed on administrative leave for a 10-second YouTube video that has subsequently been removed.

No freedom of speech for New York City cops, I guess.

Let’s look closer at Vision Zero. The one outcome that wasn’t mentioned in the article I read was the dramatic increase in revenue to the city of New York. I’m not sure of the fines, but at $50, that would mean an additional $9 million to the treasury. I’m sure City Hall is not complaining about that.

And then there is that decrease in deaths. Dropping the speed limit by 5 mph saves lives, right? Why not drop it another 5 mph; after all, what is our goal when man meets metal? Zero deaths? The project is called Vision Zero is it not?

What about the environment? If we can just get ALL the cars off the streets, get people walking or taking the subway, and leaving the streets to the rich people with their chauffeurs.

De Blasio doesn’t care about people being hit by cars. He cares about revenue and the social engineering that the Liberalism constantly tweaks.
