2016 Olympics Still An Embarrassment to Obama

Whether in pictures, prose and music, romantic Rio conjures the exotic in our minds. But Rio is far from what photographers, writers and musicians depict.

When I was to go on a trip to Rio years ago, the entire team was warned by the State Department to be very careful. The report cautioned us to remove all jewelry, and to stay closely to the designated areas for our group. This was decades ago, and romantic Rio has worsened.

What’s interesting to me about Rio is how they won the Olympics, given their social conditions. Perhaps a better way to ask this is how Obama (and Chicago) lost the Olympics.

Despite Obama’s amazing fame at the time for having been a do-nothing Congressman-turned-Senator, then a do-nothing president, Obama was riding a wave. Yet, Chicago got beat out for the Olympics by poverty-stricken, Zika-infected romantic Rio?

As reported by Dead Spin,

Rio de Janeiro’s state government is declaring a state of “public calamity” and says extreme measures must be taken or this summer’s Olympics won’t happen.

The statement calls for immediate emergency actions must be taken to prevent a “total collapse in public safety, health, education, transport and environmental management.”

Brazil’s government is a disaster, with most top federal officials under investigation for corruption and the economy a wreck due to low oil prices—leaving it in essentially no condition to safely conduct an event that will bring an estimated half-million people to Rio. The city’s atrocious sanitary conditions threaten to expose athletes and spectators to deadly, antibiotics-resistant super bacteria, as well.

Of course, we hear this every Olympiad. Athens was a wreck, Beijing a mess, and Sochi was completely unfinished—until the Opening Ceremony kicked off, when suddenly whatever needed to be done, was done. It wouldn’t be cynical to expect the same come August, but no host country has ever been in such dire financial and leadership straits as Brazil is right now.

One can only surmise that despite all of romantic Rio’s problems, the Olympics just didn’t want athletes to die.

The Olympic Committee had to know that America is dangerous due to our Liberals. When Liberals aren’t brutalizing citizens and visitors to America, they condone the attacks of others.

Muslim terror attacks are a reality. Combined with ongoing black on black (and about everybody else) carnage that happens in Chicago every day, and twice on the weekends, and it’s easy to make the case to avoid Chicago.

Crime was considered in the determination, however, the decision was based on more than that. One of the main reasons given for not choosing Chicago was the the corruption. What could a man who thrives because of that corruption say to that?

As the 2016 Olympics remains in jeopardy given all of Rio’s issues, I couldn’t help but reflect back on one of Obama’s biggest embarrassments. Despite Rio’s problems and the corruption of the Olympics, the committee got this one right.
