Black Friday Begins With a Bang

A day that referred to the collapse of the U.S. gold market in 1869 has a very different meaning today. Now Black Friday is supposed to introduce the “most wonderful time of the year.”

Not anymore, as Black Friday begin, shoppers feel anxiety as they face the gauntlet.

I’ve never understood why people want to shop on Black Friday. Fighting the masses likely appeals to some, I suppose. However, Black Friday has grown more an more violent over the years, and has become a bit of a gladiator sport.

As Zero Hedge reports, we have our first fatality in Black Friday for 2016, and things are just beginning.

For yet another year, Black Friday has started off with a (deadly) bang, and as CBS reports, police are investigating a shooting outside of a South Jersey mall on Black Friday. It happened early this morning in South Jersey outside of the Macys department store at the Hamilton Mall, near Atlantic City. CBS 3’s Trang Do reports one person has died in the shooting.

Move over “Police Shoot Black Perp,” when there is Black Friday violence just in time for the holidays.

The report continues,

“It’s sad,” said one shopper on the scene of the shooting.”We’ve been doing this, me and my girls for probably about ten years now, just for the fun of going out–a girls night and trying to get some special sales and it’s getting scary now.”

“It’s a tragedy…It’s very scary you know, you’re starting off the holiday season and you’re excited about the upcoming times with family and now there’s going to be family who are missing people and their holidays will never be the same,” said another shopper.

Did you know there is a website dedicated to the Black Friday death count? It’s actually called

The site doesn’t appear to be up to date, but I had the death count since 2006 at 7, through 2014. Obviously they haven’t logged the first death of 2016.

The Las Vegas Review consolidates the worst Black Friday fights here. In one example,

It’s Raining Gift Cards

In 2006, a mall in Torrance, Calif., came up with a promotion to give away gift certificates to customers on Black Friday, according to Business Daily News. Management, however, dramatically underestimated the turnout — but that wasn’t the only mistake the promotion’s organizers made. Instead of simply handing out the 500 gift cards, the staff dropped them from the ceiling on the frenzied mass of 2,000 frantic shoppers below.

Not a good idea. The result? A stampede that left 10 people injured, including an elderly woman.

Black Friday has become a day that showcases what Liberal America has become. Rude, insensitive, and self-indulgent.

As CNN’s Money reports,

While many stores opened on Thanksgiving this year, others held off on an early start. Mall of America suspended operations on the holiday. Only stores with exterior entrances were able to open on Thanksgiving Day.

The safer thing to do on Black Friday is to shop online. And that’s what many of us are doing to avoid the crowds, and the potential of encountering violence.

It’s estimated that shoppers spent $1.15 billion online from midnight to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, according to data from Adobe.
