Latest Trump Move Puts An End To Welfare Leeches
For the past 8 years our government spending has spiraled out of control.
Obama racked up more debt then all the former presidents combined. And had Clinton gotten elected, those policies would have continued.
Thankfully, President Trump initiated the beginning of the end to Leftists’ crazy financial policies. He recently reversed a costly Obama era policy that will save Americans billions. Now immigrants must show they are either in work or looking for work to apply for welfare.
The 1996 welfare reform law signed by former President Bill Clinton required work or job training.
Barack Obama removed these requirements, on July 12, 2012.One year later, here is what we learned:
Friday, July 12, 2013 marks one year since the Obama Administration first declared that it had the authority to waive the work requirements for welfare recipients. Work requirements were created in the 1996 welfare reform law, and they have been key to the success of welfare reform in increasing work and earnings and reducing poverty and welfare dependence. No prior Administration has ever claimed to have authority to waive these requirements, and for one simple reason – because it doesn’t exist in law.
Since the Administration first claimed to have this authority in July of last year, one of their key arguments has fallen apart. Although the Administration claimed their waiver policy was developed in response to states’ requests for more flexibility in 2011 and 2012, an internal HHS memo revealed that the Administration sought ways to waive work requirements and other key features of welfare reform as early as December of 2009. The House and Senate have acted to block the Administration waiver policy and – tellingly – not a single state has applied for a waiver from the work requirements. Even the Obama Administration appears to finally have seen the error of their ways, admitting in a Statement of Administration Policy on a House bill blocking HHS from waiving work requirements that “Ultimately, no State formally applied for State waivers.”
So the states recognized that welfare to work actually worked. And you can bet some governors realize that Obama exceeded his authority.
The article continues,
Commenting on the Administration’s earlier efforts to gut the welfare work requirements, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) stated, “If only we knew then what we know now. Looking back, it is clear that the Obama Administration’s attempt to unilaterally dismantle work requirements in welfare—requirements that have successfully lifted people out of poverty—is just one more example of an Executive branch that is out of control…”
Obama was indeed “out of control”.
And his policies added 10.7 million people to welfare, a fact of which the Democrats are proud.
As President Obama prepares to leave office, his legacy will include an increase in the number of Americans using food stamps.
The number of food stamps recipients went up by 10.7 million people, a 32 percent jump, since President Obama took office in 2009, according to data released by the Department of Agriculture (USDA).
In 2009, 33,490,000 people received food stamp benefits. As of October 2016, the last month reported for FY 2016, 44,219,123 people received food stamp benefits, an increase of about 10,729,000.
The U.S. population as of October 1, 2016 was 324,607,826, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. Therefore, the 44,219,123 people on food stamps represented 13.6 percent of the population.
Recall that the Obama administration bragged to the United Nations about America’s outrageous welfare numbers.
CNS news reported at the time,
In response to a recommendation made by the Communist government of Cuba, the U.S. State Department is boasting in a report submittedto the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights on Friday that there were “46.5 million” people on food stamps in the United States last year and that a quarter of all Americans received government “food assistance.”
Who brags about putting millions more people on the public dole? A brain-dead moron like Barack Obama and his ilk, that’s who.
Regardless, there are no more free rides.
According To the New York Post the food stamp program, cost about $33 billion and had 26 million recipients in 2007.
This program expanded under Barack Obama. The expansion occurred during the seemingly never-ending recession and reached a peak in 2013 of 47.6 million recipients. The cost to taxpayers ranges from $70-80 billion.
And the program is fraught with abuse. TBS documented a few of them:
“Immigrants before American Citizens?
In Arlington, Virginia, the immigrant wife of a successful D.C. lawyer falsified welfare applications repeatedly to receive over $100,000 in benefits. She didn’t need the money. Her husband earned a healthy living.
But why not cash in on the America that Liberalism built. Leftists have made it relatively easy.
Perhaps this is why mother of four, Helen Agbapuruonwu, collected food stamps and Medicaid benefits between 2010 and 2016, according to police. During this period, her husband, Fidelis Agbapuruonwu earned $1.5 million as a lawyer in Washington, D.C., as NBC News 4 noted.
Police allege the woman “fraudulently obtained public assistance in excess of $100,000 under false pretenses.” She has been charged “with felony welfare fraud and document forgery.”
Some studies estimate that 4.7 million able-bodied Americans receive food stamps.
Requiring people to work or look for work to receive welfare weeds out the lazy and fraudulent. And what a saving. Estimates reports that Trump’s policy will save Americans $8.4 billion annually.
Trump ran his campaign on protecting the middle-class, America’s most abused constituency. The middle-class has been used and abused, paying for programs that promote laziness and fraud.
At the Heritage Foundation, Senior Research Fellow Robert Rector told The New York Times:
“The bottom line is that a work requirement serves as a kind of gatekeeping device.”
“The primary goal is reciprocity,” said Rector. “It’s a moral goal in the sense that what you want to say is, ‘We will give aid to those who need aid, but we expect constructive activity in exchange for aid.’ That’s the whole principle. Everything else is secondary to that.”
And Trump’s budget director, Mick Mulvaney, said this:
“We are no longer going to measure compassion by the number of people on these programs,” Mulvaney said. “We’re going to measure compassion by how many people we can get off these programs.”
President Trump creates more jobs, and uses his business smarts to manage government spending. His welfare policy cuts costs and ultimately inspires people to abandon welfare as a crutch.
The days of Leftists feasting off of the hard-working, taxpaying Tea Party Community are about to be over. And immigrants won’t come for the benefits any longer, as there will be on benefits.
