Grant to Honor Black Panthers CANCELED

Grant to Honor Black Panthers CANCELED

Why do the taxpayers have to pay for the nonsense thought up by bureaucrats.

The idea of honoring the Black Panthers may be a good one. These men fought against racist Democrat-controlled governments that had run roughshod over blacks for decades. Before you try to tell me that the Black Panthers were a subversive group, remember that we are dealing with the government. That same government used black people as guinea pigs in The Tuskegee Experiment, and called Martin Luther King, Jr a subversive.

The original Black Panthers represented a very different organization than the New Black Panther Party. The latter is a group of misguided black men who inherited a world very different from the former. The former group fought very real oppression of the Federal government, as well as state and local governments.

Regardless, if the Black Panthers are to be honored, let the people who wish to honor them fund it. For all we know, taxpayers may demand of the Black Panther honor the same fate that befell Confederate monuments.

In light of the money spent to tear down monuments, it’s interesting that somebody wanted to honor the group using your money; not theirs.

Fox reports the culprit to be the University of California at Berkeley:

The National Park Service announced it was awarding the university a $97,999.70 grant for the project, outside of the normal competitive bidding process.

“This cooperative research project between the National Park Service (NPS) and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) on the Black Panther Party (BPP) is anchored in historical methods, visual culture, and the preservation of sites and voices,” according to theĀ funding announcement. “The project will discover new links between the historical events concerning race that occurred in Richmond during World War II and the subsequent emergence of the BPP in the San Francisco Bay Area two decades later through research, oral history, and interpretation.”

And they would have gotten away with it, if it weren’t for those meddling kids!

Yes, Scooby Doo saved the day. Be sure to look at the funding announcement, as it discloses all the work the professor did to get the funds. It also shows what she would be paid annually from the fund.

Why in the hell should the taxpayers fund some Leftist professor’s wet dream?

And thankfully we won’t have to. Because that funding has been rescinded.

Although the acting head of the NPS, Michael T. Reynolds is an Obama holdover, he reports to Ryan Zinke at Interior. You can believe that retired Navy SEAL Zinke nor the president was aware of this Berkeley boondoggle.

The grant was canceled. But it does make you wonder what else have the Left sneaked in?

Further insult is that the University of Berkeley, already costly to the taxpayers would want any more money. I suggest the university honor its commitment to true education before trying to sneak in grants like this.
