CNN Very Quietly Backtracked a Fake News Story

When CNN wants to promote their fake news narratives, they SPLASH some salacious headline.

However, when the proof of the lie hits, CNN gets quieter than a mouse pissing on cotton.

Such was the case with what CNN deemed an “explosive report” against Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

As Fox News reported,

CNN has gently walked back a report from earlier this year that faulted Attorney General Jeff Sessions for failing to reveal meetings he had with Russian officials when he applied for his security clearance – a disclosure he wasn’t required to make.

CNN reported last May that Sessions didn’t disclose meetings he had with a Russian ambassador when he was a senator. The mainstream media was all over the story and significant airtime was spent portraying Sessions as shady and dishonest. In addition to embarrassing Sessions, the storyline also fed the narrative that the Trump administration colluded with Russia during the election.

The splashy headline on CNN’s website said, “First on CNN: AG Sessions did not disclose Russia meetings in security clearance form, DOJ says.” CNN’s story claimed the incident was “the latest example of Sessions failing to disclose contacts he had with Russian officials.” Roughly six months later, the network has admitted that the entire report was essentially meaningless.

“A newly released document shows that the FBI told an aide to Attorney General Jeff Sessions that Sessions wasn’t required to disclose foreign contacts that occurred in the course of carrying out his government duties when he was a senator,” CNN’s Evan Perez wrote on Monday.

“The FBI email from March bolsters the explanation by the Justice Department for why Sessions didn’t disclose contacts with the Russian ambassador in his application for a US security clearance,” Perez continued.

I love the way the New York Post reported the “mishap” by CNN:

What forced CNN to “clarify”? A right-wing group’s Freedom of Information request produced an FBI e-mail from March that proved Sessions right.

Sigh: The misleading May report became part of the litany of alleged Team Trump deception on its Russia contacts, showing up in The Atlantic as well as stories for ABC News, Buzzfeed, the Huffington Post and so on — all “confirming” Sessions’ supposed lack of candor in his verbal testimony.

Monday’s ’fess-up follows last week’s stunning CNN retraction of an incorrect report that WikiLeaks informed Donald Trump Jr. of dirt before releasing it publicly.

CNN (among others) plainly needs to start asking more questions when partisan sources hand it “bombshells” that seem to confirm the now-very-thin “collusion” narrative.

A “right-wing’s group’s Freedom of Information request”. In other words, the reason we got to the truth was due to a Conservative group’s search for the truth!

CNN likely would have never admitted to its intentional fake news narrative.

Even the New York Post realizes that the Russian collusion story is as they wrote, “very thin”.

And CNN received quite a few of President Trump’s “fake news” Awards.

One would think the network and all other fake news outlets would get the message. Americans no longer trust them. And until they start covering the important news and not setting agendas, that trust will never come back.

Instead of taking the honorable approach, CNN launched an advertising campaign in an attempt to shake that moniker with a “Facts First” initiative. The campaign received no traction, and most lampooned the effort.

The ad launched on Oct 23 of last year. And reminiscent of Michael Wolff, the author of Fire and Fury has not been seen in quite some time.

The Sessions gaffe and the date mishap result in back-to-back business days in which CNN was forced to correct a story that inaccurately portrayed the Trump administration in a negative light.

To add insult to injury, CNN was also widely mocked again when it focused on Trump’s Diet Coke intake, as a potential terror attack unfolded in New York.

When it comes to the war on fake news, clearly President Trump is winning…big time. And because of CNN’s all out war on the truth, President Trump gets to continue his brutal beatdown.
