MO Gov Eric Greitens Affair: More to Come
Let’s just keep it real, Missouri Governor Eric Greitens likely had more than one affair.
I’m actually surprised to learn that he’s just fessing up to the one reported by Fox 2:
ST. LOUIS, Mo. _Missouri Governor Eric Greitens confirms a broadcast report that he had an affair. He and his wife Sheena issued a joint statement Wednesday night.
“A few years ago, before Eric was elected governor, there was a time when he was unfaithful in our marriage. This was a deeply personal mistake. Eric took responsibility, and we dealt with this together, honestly and privately. While we never would have wished for this pain in our marriage or the pain that this has caused others, with God’s mercy, Sheena has forgiven and we have emerged stronger. We understand that there will be some people who cannot forgive but for those who can find it in your heart, Eric asks for your forgiveness and we are grateful for your love, your compassion, and your prayers.”
Sheena Greitens added in another statement, “We have a loving marriage and an awesome family. Anything beyond that is between us and God. I want the media and those who wish to peddle gossip to stay away from me and my children.”
I didn’t vote for Greitens, as I found him to be disingenuous. He reeked of “fake”. The more I dug, the less I liked him.
The man structured his life on achievements to make people believe him to be bigger than life. Lots of “structured” awards. Things he put himself in the running to get.
That said, my first knowledge of Greitens came in a phone call from a friend. He asked if I’d heard of him. I replied that I wasn’t familiar with him. Then my friend recommended I get to know who he is, as he saw Greitens as an up-and-comer in Missouri. He said Greitens lived in St. Louis, as did I. But when he informed me thatGreitens was a former Navy SEAL, that perked my interest.
Having worked with quite a few former SEALS in various capacities, I instantly admired him. By chance, months, perhaps even a year later Greitens contacted me. He asked to meet for lunch at his office.
The most memorable thing about the meeting was his assistant. That woman was smoking hot! And when I say smoking hot, I mean “smokin’ HOT!” She was a Victoria’s Secret model and centerfold rolled into one.
Eric greeted me in that overly friendly, “I’m going to make you believe I’m great” greetings, then quickly showed me around his office. I figured that smokin’ hot admin was his wife. But we got to his office, and I saw pictures of his family. His wife was homely in comparison to his admin, but then again who wasn’t. Did I mention she was smokin’ hot.
As I pondered the picture of his family, I thought to myself, “His wife must be pretty secure in their marriage!”
Off to lunch he and I went to discuss his plans for the future. Essentially Greitens wanted to size me up, and see if he could win me over.
Fast forward, and we have the story of his affair.
They say he fooled around with his hairdresser. But the story worsens when we learn that Greitens took a nude picture of the woman and threatened blackmail. Based on other stories of which I have personal knowledge, the woman’s account is not far-fetched.
‘He used some sort of tape, I don’t know what it was… and taped my hands to these rings and then put a blindfold on me,’ she first explained.
Then, ‘he stepped back, I saw a flash through the blindfold and he said: ‘You’re never going to mention my name, otherwise, there will be pictures of me everywhere’,’ she added, tearfully.
In the 2015 conversation with her husband, the woman said she partly blames herself for the interactions.
She felt angry, however, when Greitens – a man who described himself during his campaign as a ‘Navy SEAL, native Missourian and most importantly, a proud husband and father’ – snapped a nude picture of her without permission to later use as blackmail.
The woman also said Greitens since apologized over the aggressive encounter, and confirmed: ‘I wanted to tell you, I erased it.’
Following the fallout, the woman revealed the two had one more ‘physical interaction’ later in the day – but did not include further information on what that entailed.
Mr. Perfect is how Greitens presents himself.
I warned many people falling for his game to be careful. Greitens was perfect…on paper. For me, this posed a problem, because few people are as good as their resumes.
Is this a deal-breaker for Greitens as governor? No. He’s performed well as governor of Missouri so far. But if he wants to go higher politically, the bar raises.
Greitens wants to be president. We learned this during his governor’s race, where it was discovered he had the domain, GreitensForPresident.com. If he enters the big leagues, more skeletons will come out for the man who was one of the most influential 40 under 40, at one point.
And it’s his own fault for having the affair, and for coming off as a goody-two-shoes. Now that the veneer has cracked, let’s see how he handles things.
One thing is for sure. He’s no longer Mr. Perfect.
