Americans Blaming DEMOCRATS for Shutdown After Trump Speech

President Donald Trump may get a new nickname of Boss. Because he makes boss moves that leave Democrats scrambling.

I’m not sure of Trump’s long play, but his short plays are genius. Recently the president gave a pre-State of the Union where he said he was willing to compromise.

As The Federalist Papers noted, the President offered a deal to extend DACA and TPS in exchange for funding for the border wall.

Democrats quickly responded, “No. Then, Pelosi declared the Democrats would not make any deal.

“Unfortunately, initial reports make clear that his proposal is a compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable and in total, do not represent a good faith effort to restore certainty to people’s lives,” she said.

This move played right into Trump’s hands for a few reasons.

As we reported a while back, President Trump has a “Trump card” in that he can now clean house in the government. Since the shutdown now goes beyond 30 days, he can get rid of bureaucrats much as Reagan did with air traffic controllers.

I expect his team is already figuring out how to continue draining the swamp. So expect a few high-level heads to roll.

But the next potential move by the president is what intrigues me. Because when Democrats come back to the bargaining table–and they will–I predict the president will take away the 3-year DACA deal and replace it with something less.

When Trump has the power as the Democrats come crawling back, he will have them where he wants them.

Already this is showing promise. Because according to recent polls, Americans now blame Schumer and Pelosi, i.e. the Democrats for the shutdown. Americans noticed that Democrats don’t seem willing to compromise.

They bloviate about the amount of money they have allocated to border security. However, when it comes to a small amount of that budget to be allocated for a “wall”, Democrats draw a line in the sand.

I liken what the Democrats now offer Trump as all the materials to build a building except the concrete to lay the foundation.

Here’s what CNN reported prior to Trump’s speech:

As the partial government shutdown nears the one-month mark, there have been a number of public opinion polls examining how the public feels about the shutdown, which was sparked by a funding standoff over President Donald Trump’s proposal for a new wall along the border with Mexico.

Six high-quality polls have been released this week touching on Trump, the shutdown, the Democrats in Congress and the wall.
Most confirmed what we already knew from before the shutdown started: Opposition to a border wall is widespread and deep. But beyond that general opposition, the new polls offer some consistent results, including:

Blame, in the public’s mind, rests largely at the White House

Many object to the shutdown, especially as a tactic to build the wall,

Few see a wall as an effective way to combat undocumented immigration.

And almost all the fake news media followed suit. Like USA Today, Reuters, and the Washington Post.

I dare you to click their links and find three words of difference in the articles. They merely repeat Leftist talking points.

But post-Trump speech, look at what happened.

Rep Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) broke away from Democrat talking points:

Hawaii congresswoman and Democratic candidate for president Tulsi Gabbard said Sunday that her party’s leadership was not blameless for the partial government shutdown that is now approaching a month, accusing both sides of posturing and refusing to compromise.

“The problem here is that this issue, like so many others in Washington, are being relegated to partisan politics,” she said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

A week before the media pile-on of Trump, Andrew Arthur of Center for Immigration Studies wrote an article declaring Democrats would ultimately be blamed for the shutdown:

Even before the current government shutdown began, there was a question of who would be blamed for it. President Trump, in a December 11, 2018, meeting with then-House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, as reported by CNBC, actually offered to take the blame:

“If we don’t get what we want, one way or the other, whether it’s through you, through military, through anything you want to call, I will shut down the government,” Trump said, as Schumer sat staring forward and not meeting the president’s eyes.

“We disagree,” Schumer responded.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck. … I will take the mantle…be the one to shut it down,” the president said.

In the end, however, the Democrats will be the ones blamed, largely because of how they and the media portray the president: as a short-tempered idiot, or as a petulant child.

Remember when Democrats tried this tactic during the 2016 presidential race?

Democrats declared Hillary Clinton the “adult in the room”. How did that work out for them?

Arthur continues,

There are “Trump Idiot GIFs”, and Trump idiot T-shirts. A December 2018 Salon article is headlined: “Harvard prof. Laurence Tribe calls Trump a ‘compromised,” “f**king idiot'”. I could go on, but you get the point.

The problem for the Democrats and the media is, as Mark Twain once remarked: “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience”. Now I don’t know whether the president is an idiot or not, and in fact I once suggested that he might be a “secret genius”. Rather, when an adult gets into an argument (or worse, a taunting match) with either a child or an idiot over something that the latter wants, the one who ends up looking bad is the former.

For proof, here is a thought experiment. You’re standing in a checkout line at the supermarket, and a child wants a specific candy item from his or her parent. If the parent says no, and the child stops asking, you would likely think of it is good parenting, or a well-behaved child. If the child continues to demand the candy, however, and the parent continues to say no, eventually you would ask yourself why the parent doesn’t just give in. Worse, if the parent gets into a shouting match with the child, you would start to wonder what is wrong with the parent — petulance from a child is to be expected, but the adult is expected to be, well, an adult. Eventually, your sympathies would start to side with the child, if you are anything like me.

While Trump’s tactics may appear “childish” to some, results matter.

And there are times when a child cries and it’s for the right reasons. Like when t’s sick. Because of Leftism, America is sick.

In this case, Trump gains support daily, as the Democrats fall into the trap of Leftism. They know they are wrong, but believe they control public opinion. And even as the polls betray them, they continue their wicked strategy.

Ironically, President Trump may transfer blame for the shutdown to the Democrats, even though he publicly said he would take the blame. When this occurs, that will be a move of monumental proportions.
