Democrats continue playing checkers while Trump plays chess.
Recall President Trump said Mexico will pay for the wall. He never said how they would pay for it. And I suspect in the trade negotiation, Mexico more than did their part.
Nevertheless, Democrats think they are pulling a fast one, as The Daily Caller reports:
Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas introduced legislation forbidding construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border — unless Mexico pays for it.
Lee introduced the Protect American Taxpayers and Secure Border Act into the House on Dec. 19, which would “prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to build a wall between Mexico and the United States,” and further require that any barrier constructed on the southern border “be paid for using funds provided by the Government of Mexico.”
She referred the bill to the House Committee on the Judiciary and the Committee on Homeland Security, and already has four cosponsors: Democratic Reps. Karen Bass of California, Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Joaquin Castro of Texas and Yvette Clarke of New York.
The Texas congresswoman has remained largely silent on the proposed legislation, as have the bill’s other sponsors.
So what’s the Democrats’ strategy?
Well, they could want to piss off Mexico, but that’s doubtful. Democrats love using Latinos, particularly Mexicans. So Democrats wouldn’t do something so blatantly anti-Latino, since Democrats prefer hating Latinos in private.
That said, if the Republicans were smart, they would market this new development on Univision. Taking a page from Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, Republicans could declare Democrats as xenophobic to Mexicans. But don’t worry. Republicans don’t have the balls for such a strategy.
So the Democrats’ strategy is obvious: Make Trump and the Republicans honor President Trump’s campaign promise of having Mexico pay for the wall. Interestingly, Congresswoman Lee doesn’t want the government to pay for the wall, but also she doesn’t want private citizens paying for the wall, either.
As part of this legislation, Lee doesn’t want to allow the GoFundMe project to help fund the wall. Pretty amazing when you consider what Lee and other Democrats are proposing. Because what are the ramifications of Congress voting to not use taxpayer money for certain things?
For example, why not make this legislation apply to Obamacare?
That legislation is chocked full of broken promises. Outrageous premiums and deductibles. Most people in America are afraid to use their insurance. And what about the broken promises of keeping your plan and your doctor?
Moreover, illegals are using Obamacare. How is that even possible that U.S. citizens must pay for the healthcare of illegals. Why not just pay for the healthcare of the world? Further, why should citizens of the United States pay for something the majority of people don’t want.
And what of government waste? Wouldn’t you like to see a menu of things you want or don’t want and you can decide?
In contrast to Obamacare, the majority of people do want a wall. In fact, the GoFundMe on the wall is proof. I never saw a GoFundMe for Obamacare.
Back to Sheila Jackson Lee
Let’s see how things shake out on Congresswoman Lee’s legislation. I know it will backfire, and I’m curious as to how President Trump will use this against her.
