Last week, President Trump filed a lawsuit against Democratic House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings.
As we predicted, it was only the first wave of litigation from Trump.
After the release of the Mueller Report, Democrats declared war on the President. First Cummings issued subpoena requesting information about Trump’s personal finances.
However, Trump has no legal obligation to release his tax returns or any of his personal financial information.
Trump’s lawyer in the lawsuit, William Consovoy, said in a statement that the attempt by Cummings’ committee to “obtain years’ worth of confidential information from their accountants lacks any legitimate legislative purpose, is an abuse of power, and is just another example of overreach by the president’s political opponents.”

Oddly enough, Trump’s actually released his tax returns before. Which makes me wonder why Democrats are so desperate to get their hands on them, again. But Kevin Jackson recently pointed out a clever possibility.
Perhaps Trump is setting up the liberals.
He certainly bested Rachel Maddow on her “Trump’s Taxes” episode. Here’s what we wrote at the time:
In typical Donald Trump showmanship, he beat Maddow to the punch, releasing his tax returns before her broadcast.
The White House on Tuesday night released some details of President Trump’s income and paid taxes from 2005, as MSNBC prepared to release the information in an evening broadcast.
Trump reported $150 million in income and $38 million paid in taxes, according to a statement from the White House.
MSNBC host Rachel Maddow had teased Tuesday evening that she had Trump’s 1040 form from 2005…Lawrence O’Donnell tweeted, “This is the night we’ve been waiting for.”
MSNBC alerted the White House about the information, and the White House seemed to opt to take the punch out of the report, releasing the major numbers itself shortly before the broadcast — and slamming MSNBC in the process.
Well played, Mr. President!
Unfortunately, leftists are hell-bent on keeping the witch hunt alive. And that’s exactly why Cummings started the inquiry into Trump’s finances. If he can’t get the tax returns, he’ll take the bank statements.
Next up: Trump’s banks.
Trump’s new lawsuit is the answer to Cummings’ latest subpoena.
According to Town Hall:
The Trump family on Monday filed a lawsuit against Deutsche Bank and Capital One to prevent the banks from complying with subpoenas from the House Intelligence and Financial Services Committees, the Washington Examiner reported. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of President Donald Trump, three of his children and the Trump Organization. They allege the Democratic-led subpoenas are being issued to “harass” the president and his family based solely on political differences.
“This case involves congressional subpoenas that have no legitimate or lawful purpose,” the lawsuit says. “The subpoenas were issued to harass President Donald J. Trump, to rummage through every aspect of his personal finances, his businesses and the private information of the president and his family, and to ferret about for any material that might be used to cause him political damage. No grounds exist to establish any purpose other than a political one.”
The House Intelligence and Financial Services Committees sent letters to Deutsche Bank earlier this month. The Committees are interested in Deutsche Bank’s relationship with President Trump because they have given him more than $2 billion in loans over the years.
When Deutsche made the Trumps aware of the subpoena on April 17th, the bank said the Committees wanted “records and/or information relating to banking activities, including information regarding accounts, financings, and related financial information,” Business Insider reported.
Cummings is chasing down current and former employees of the banks, just hoping someone will spill the beans. But Trump has grown weary of leftists and their illegal endeavors. So Trump made a decision. These liberals insist on creating a circus. Thus, Trump is ready to run circles around them.
