Mario Lopez Pummeled Over Transgender Comments

Liberals want Mario Lopez out! Cancel his shows and strip him of his teenage beef-cake crown because he believes we should protect our children from falling off the slippery slope of transgenderism.

Lopez appeared on the Candace Owens show in June. During their discussion, Lopez weighed in on raising three-year-olds as transgender, calling it “dangerous.”

The Daily Wire elaborates:

Owens noted the Hollywood “trend” of stars speaking out about their young transgender children. “I am trying to understand this new Hollywood mentality where they just think their children now have the mental authority,” she said.

“I am trying to understand it myself, and please don’t lump me into that whole [group],” Lopez answered, according to Yahoo! News. “I’m kind of blown away too. Look, I’m never one to tell anyone how to parent their kids obviously and I think if you come from a place of love, you really can’t go wrong, but at the same time, my God, if you’re 3 years old and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way or you think you’re a boy or a girl or whatever the case may be, I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make this determination then, well, OK, then you’re going to be a boy or a girl, whatever the case may be … It’s sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on.”

“When you’re a kid … you don’t know anything about sexuality yet. You’re just a kid,” he added.

Clearly, Lopez isn’t lashing out at any transgendered people.

Never did Lopez say “people can’t be transgender” or “people shouldn’t be transgender.” He left the adults to do as they see fit. Instead, he focused on the mental health of children. Shame on him, right?

Lopez is merely stating a fact. Childhood can be confusing, and parents shouldn’t jump the gun and label their children “transgender.” When I was three, I was pretty sure I was Princess Leia.  Sadly, that didn’t  pan out. But I’m glad my Star Wars identity wasn’t set in stone, because looking back now, those braided buns aren’t the coolest hairstyle in the world after all.

Often times, children are just identifying gender bias during early childhood years.

For example, my little girl loves remote control cars. And on the flip side, her brother played his share of Barbie with her long before school taught him Barbie is a no-no. Should I have encouraged them to trade wardrobes? Of course not. Most children experience at least one confusing moment dealing with gender identity and which gender roles to accept or reject as they mature.

In fact, don’t take my word for it. Consider these lyrics from the song, “Same Love” by Macklemore.

When I was in the 3rd grade I thought that I was gay ’cause I could draw,
My uncle was, and I kept my room straight
I told my mom, tears rushing down my face, she’s like,
“Ben you’ve loved girls since before pre-K”
Trippin’, yeah, I guess she had a point, didn’t she?
A bunch of stereotypes all in my head
I remember doing the math like “Yeah, I’m good a little league”
A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant
For those who like the same sex had the characteristics

The Cold Hard Truth

As The Daily Wire mentions,

Lopez has been met with some backlash and calls to be “cancelled,” which Yahoo! News was quick to highlight. The host’s name was the top trend on Twitter for hours on Tuesday morning for the apparently “controversial” commentary.

The Twitter account for Human Rights Campaign reacted, “Mario Lopez’s comments are dangerous to the safety and well-being of LGBTQ youth, especially trans children who deserve to be loved and accepted for who they are.”

But this statement ignores a pretty significant part of the truth. No matter how much liberals hate to hear it, transgender presents many mental health challenges, especially for children. It is categorized as body dysmorphia.

And while the AAP stance has somewhat changed over the past five years, one part remains constant. Children dealing with gender identity issues are more likely to encounter problems with “depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance use, self-harm and suicide.”

That being said, why would we jump to label our toddlers as transgender? Especially when there are millions of healthy ways to teach children how to explore their gender identity.

Sure, kids will reach an age at which they decide who they’re going to be, but as one Twitter user put it, that age is not 3, or even 5.

Honestly, Lopez’s comments shouldn’t be the focus of so much backlash. The liberal unwillingness to accept an alternate point of view is far more disturbing. At least Lopez stated a willingness to explore the subject further, whereas leftists spent the day dishing out idle threats on Twitter.
