Remember when three UCLA basketball players shoplifted in China? Not only were they caught and arrested, but they were facing TEN YEARS in a Chinese prison.
That’s when President Trump stepped in and personally appealed to China’s President Xi Jingping to resolve the matter. Needless to say, the little twits returned home safely, at the embarrassment of our country, their families, and the university. But despite their fall from grace, we had a president with the the power to save them.
Fast forward to 2022, things don’t look quite a good. WNBA star Britney Griner was arrested in the airport for smuggling a vape with THC in it. Now, she’s sitting in a Russian prison, alone with her terrified thoughts.
Now, Griner is begging Biden to help her:
“… As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever,” the WNBA superstar wrote.
“On the 4th of July, our family normally honors the service of those who fought for our freedom, including my father who is a Vietnam War Veteran. It hurts thinking about how I usually celebrate this day because freedom means something completely different to me this year.”
“Please do all you can to bring us home. I voted for the first time in 2020 and I voted for you. I believe in you. I still have so much good to do with my freedom that you can help restore,” the letter read in part. “I miss my wife! I miss my family! I miss my teammates! It kills me to know they are suffering so much right now. I am grateful for whatever you can do at this moment to get me home.”
Griner better prepare herself for a worser fate.
Sadly, Griner may soon learn what it’s like when your president lacks power.
Griner is in the middle of a trial that began Friday to determine her fate. Fewer than 1% of defendants in Russian criminal cases are acquitted and, unlike in U.S. courts, acquittals can be overturned.
At this point, the two-time Olympic medalist is facing ten years in a Russian prison. It’s not even clear if her trial will be a trial by jury, or a trial by judge. The Russian process lacks transparency.
In fact, the whole idea of “innocent until proven guilty” does not exist in Russia. There, you only go to trial if a presumption of guilt exits, practically guaranteeing conviction. The American way is scoffed. And as we’ve already seen, Biden is Russia’s b*tch. Griner will be lucky if Biden remembers her name, much less intervenes on her behalf.
It’s a sad way for a WNBA superstar to go down. So much for girl power.
