Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, aka Obama’s new BFF has responded to the U.S. passage of the nuclear deal.
The deal that we know benefits Iran by allowing unfettered enrichment of uranium for purposes of getting nuclear weapons is being politicized by Khamenei. He has banned any future negotiations with Americans. Wouldn’t you, if you got everything you needed!
Nevertheless, as Reuters reported, Khamenei said:
“’Negotiations with the United States open gates to their economic, cultural, political and security influence. Even during the nuclear negotiations they tried to harm our national interests,’ Khamenei was quoted as saying on his website.
‘Our negotiators were vigilant but the Americans took advantage of a few chances,’ he said.
‘Through negotiations Americans seek to influence Iran … but there are naive people in Iran who don’t understand this,’ Khamenei was quoted as saying to the IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps) commanders, who are also running much of Iran’s military involvement in Syria.”
Now what we are being told is that Khamenei’s position is an attempt to rein in moderates like Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who recently stated Iran was ready to hold talks on resolving the crisis in Syria. But the fact is, the nuclear agreement was a victory for Rouhani and ordinary Iranians, who have suffered from the crippling sanctions and desire better relations with the West.
And if that wasn’t enough, immediately before and after the nuclear deal Khamenei led protestors in the streets chanting of “Death to America.”
That was dismissed by Obama as a cliché in Iran and didn’t really mean death to America.
Fast-forward and you have Iran with over 1,000 troops in Syria and coordinating with Russian war planes and the Syrian Army to crush forces opposed to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. Their stated mission is to combat ISIS, but to date the targets seem to be Syrian opposition groups backed by the U.S.
This is what happens when we have a president whose stated policy is lead from behind. Iran, Russia, China and North Korea have pushed him around ever since he took office. He has made the U.S. the laughing stock of the international community. The damage to America’s credibility may be irreparable for long after he leaves office.
Something tells me that Khamenei will open negotiations with Obama before Obama leaves office. After all, negotiating with Obama is like a fat Liberal at an all-you-can-eat buffet.
