Bannon vs Musk: A Tale of Ego vs Accomplishments

Steve Bannon seems to be nursing a robust ego these days. Honestly, good for him. Confidence is key, even if it’s misplaced.

I remember meeting Bannon years ago in Quincy, Illinois, when he was partnered with Andrew Breitbart. Back then, Bannon was like a shadow—noticeable, but mostly because Andrew cast him.

After Andrew’s death, Bannon seemed almost eager to step into the spotlight. And while I’m all for amplifying conservative voices, it’s worth noting that not all contributions are created equal. Some build movements; others, well, clean the aquarium. Let’s just say the conservative movement has its fair share of suckerfish—eager to bottom-feed and pick unnecessary fights.

Speaking of unnecessary fights, MSN reported that Bannon has decided to go after Elon Musk. Why? Because Musk supports H-1B visas, a stance Bannon and other far-right Trump loyalists oppose. Trump, meanwhile, has backed Musk’s position, presumably because he understands the nuanced role skilled immigration plays in tech innovation.

Here’s Bannon’s take:

“Before, because he put money in, I was prepared to tolerate it,” Bannon said, referring to the $250 million Musk contributed in the 2024 campaign to help Trump’s election. “I’m not prepared to tolerate it anymore.”

Not prepared to tolerate it? Bannon tolerating Musk is like a barnacle tolerating the hull of a ship. Musk builds plans to colonize Mars, lands rockets backwards, and launches satellites in his spare time. And rumors are that while he’s designing the next generation battery technology, he translated the IRS code into into Latin just for fun. Bannon? He’s offering critiques from the cheap seats.

Does Bannon think he’s Martha Stewart.

People suspect that Martha Stewart took over the prison when she got convicted. She had all those chicks earning for Martha Stewart Living. But admittedly, I wonder if something may have happened to Bannon during his time in Club Fed?

One of my cousins did a fairly long stretch in prison. When he got out, no “Baby Mama” was safe, particularly those who were looking for any dude with a pulse or who could fog a mirror. So my cousin “got with” many of these chickenheads and fathered 12 kids in just over a year. Word on the street was that he wanted to reclaim his manhood after playing the girlfriend of a shot-caller in the joint. Is Bannon experiencing the political equivalent of that phase?

Musk isn’t a perfect conservative. He’s a pragmatist, not a purist. But unlike Bannon, he’s earned his place at the table by building things—actual, tangible things. If Musk supports H-1B visas, it’s not because he’s a globalist sellout; it’s because the man has a brain big enough to grasp the complexities of global innovation. And Musk has the H-1B personnel to back up his statements.

Unquestionably there are companies using H-1B visas for nefarious reasons. Does Bannon really think the man running DOGE would go for that? Like Trump, Musk wants “best and brightest” in America. I’m sure he understands how to root out the H-1B pimps, and refocus the program on the people we used to bring into country in this manner.

What’s Bannon’s endgame here?

He has no clout. He the old guy at the nightclub, and occasionally somebody buys him a drink. But he’s not going home with a hottie. Put another way, Bannon needs to know his place.

Perhaps his place is publicity? Is he pulling a “Jake Paul” to try to get Musk into the cage? Doubtful. Newsflash: Picking a fight with the world’s richest man isn’t a strategy; it’s a spectacle.

For the record, I’m not blasting Bannon—he’s doing that himself. What I am doing is betting on Musk. Because when it comes to building, innovating, and making a real impact, Musk is in a league of his own. Bannon’s playbook of provocations might score him some clicks, but it won’t win the argument.

So let’s see how this unfolds. My money’s on the African-American.
