Oakland Mayor SUED for Tipping Off Illegals

Finally, Americans are beginning to understand how to stop the Leftists.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform took a page from the book of Alinsky, as the organizations singles out the Oakland Mayor.

Announced today, FAIR by way of its legal arm (IRLI) initiated a lawsuit against Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf.

Per FAIR:

Oakland Calif., Mayor Libby Schaaf made national news a few months ago when she warned illegal aliens in her community about an imminent roundup by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on February 25. Acting ICE Director Tom Homan said Schaaf’s actions were equivalent to those of a “gang lookout.”

The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), the only public service law firm dedicated to defending the rights of Americans on immigration matters, has filed a lawsuit against Schaaf, seeking communications records between her and top city officials in the days leading up to her tip-off.

• Lawsuit seeks “Any and all records of communications, including but limited to emails, between City of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf; Chief of Staff Shereda Nosakhare; Director of Public Safety Venus D. Johnson; Director of Communications Justin Berton; and Police Chief Anne E. Kirkpatrick referring or relating to Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE from February 23, 2018 through February 24, 2018.”

• Homan said more than 800 criminal aliens were able to escape the ICE raid as a result of Schaaf’s actions.

• Illegal aliens in California have been responsible for the growing number of deaths of innocent people including Kate Steinle, Drew Rosenberg and Jamiel Shaw III.

• Sanctuary laws have been in the news about California’s state law and the many cities there that have formally opposed it. IRLI also filed an amicus brief in the Justice Department’s suit against California.

FAIR requested copies of emails and other internal communications between Schaff and her top-level staff related to Schaaf’s public tip-off under the California Public Records Act (CPRA). However, according to FAIR’s complaint, the assigned deadline passed without any documents being produced.

“I think [the documents are] going to expose [Schaaf and her staff] radical open-borders philosophy and how … [Schaaf] has been scheming with the chief of police,” Wilcox told House about what IRLI hopes their lawsuit will uncover. “She has mentioned in news reports about conversations she’s had with her chief of police over tipping off illegal aliens. She’s been quite brazen. She’s actually said she’s willing to go to jail to defend criminal illegal aliens.”

In an article in the Washington Times, FAIR noted the shocking growth in sanctuary cities since the Obama presidency.

About half of all Americans now live under sanctuary policies that shield illegal immigrants from law enforcement, according to the latest tally of jurisdictions that the Federation for American Immigration Reform is releasing Thursday.

FAIR calculates there were 564 states and municipalities that refuse some level of cooperation with federal immigration authorities as of April 1, up more than 200 since President Trump took office and up more than 500 compared with a decade ago. There were just 40 sanctuaries when President Obama took office.

But that number doesn’t completely highlight the problem of entire states thwarting existing laws.

Entire states such as California, Illinois and New York are now sanctuaries, as well as major cities and counties such as Fairfax, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and the District of Columbia in the capital region, according to the list.

Combined, the sanctuaries on FAIR’s list cover 49 percent of the country’s population, The Washington Times calculated.

“This is just an astounding and a dramatic surge of sanctuary jurisdictions,” said Bob Dane, executive director at FAIR. “They’ve doubled in just two years, and if you game that out, if the exponential growth continues, it’s not going to be long before it’s accurate to say the U.S. is a sanctuary country.”

Perhaps the lawsuit by FAIR will signal a warning to bureaucrats that American citizens will no longer stand by as the country is overtaken by illegals.

I hasten to remind Leftists that America has a legal immigration system. That system has law-abiding immigrants waiting in line to earn citizenship in this country. So the lies of Leftists that Americans have an anti-immigrant mentality in a country comprised mostly of immigrants is ridiculous.

I expect FAIR will continue targeting those who disregard America’s laws regarding immigration. I certainly cheer their efforts.
