Every mass shooting brings the same tired arguments to the table. We need to outlaw guns.
Listen, I’m all for gun safety. And I do believe in background checks, and even limiting the types of guns that the average Joe is able to purchase. Certain weapons should be reserved for warfare, even if this is an unpopular opinion among my fellow conservatives.
However, I cannot wrap my head around the idea that gun control will end violence. So here’s the standard conservative answer. Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.
But don’t take my word for it. Here’s proof.
A man who was “full of anger” went on a two-hour stabbing and robbery rampage in Southern California, killing four people and wounding two others, authorities said Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Garden Grove man was taken into custody after he came out of a 7-Eleven in Santa Ana, southeast of Los Angeles, and dropped a knife along with a handgun that he had taken from a guard, police said.
The violence appeared to be random and the only known motives seem to be “robbery, hate, homicide,” Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney said at a news conference.
“We know this guy was full of anger and he harmed a lot of people tonight,” he said. The suspect and all the victims were Hispanic, he added.
This happened less than one week after the shooting in El Paso. The killer didn’t need a gun. He had a machete.
Sidenote: The killer, 33 year old Zachary Castaneda, is a violent criminal. Under liberal California laws, Castaneda served a shortened prison sentence and managed to be out on the streets when he belonged behind bars.
So far, hate seems to be his primary motive. Or as Lt. Carl Whitney said, “robbery, hate, homicide.”
So where are the liberal demands for the removal of all knives?
The Right to Bare Arms
At the end of the day, it is our constitutional right to bare arms. There is no other way to interpret the 2nd Amendment. It should be like buying a car. You take a test. Then you apply for a license (insert background check to weed out the crazies here). After which you buy a gun, and you register your ownership. It really is that simple.
And for those who believe having guns around them never makes them feel safer, I offer another piece of evidence.

After digging around a little deeper, I learned this crosswalk is in front of a school. Several families were gathered there before a Mother’s Day celebration.
Here’s a mom who proved a mother really will risk her life for her children. I bet that’s one criminal who felt relief when the police finally showed up.
Even Obama’s very own DOJ issued a report explaining gun control actually makes violence worse. Thus, Baby Black Jesus knows the truth! So why don’t his followers accept it?
How much clearer must this argument be?
Just the other day, one of my fellow conservative writers made a good point.
Remember in 2012, when the Venezuela government had their “gun by back/confiscation program”……. one of my best friends and his wife live in Bogota Columbia, and they are daily afraid for their lives….. You want to know why??? Because all the murdering, gun carrying, criminals never turned their guns and now they are all in Bogota killing and shooting people with the guns that they were not allowed to have that the government said to turn over. My friends, brother in laws aunt was just shot in the face at point blank range for a iphone by a criminal from Venezuela, who was not allowed to have a gun in Venezuela, cause the government said so, and he is killing people in another country where the government says “no guns” and people are unable to defend themselves. ~Kirk Martin
After a little more digging, I learned many Venezuelans regret that gun ban.
“Guns would have served as a vital pillar to remaining a free people, or at least able to put up a fight,” Javier Vanegas, 28, a Venezuelan teacher of English now exiled in Ecuador, told Fox News.
But for the leftist that dismisses the Venezuelan example because it’s a foreign country, here’s more proof from our own backyard.
Washington, D.C.’s gun ban worsened the city’s murder rate. .
The Daily Caller explains:
In 1976, D.C. implemented a law that banned citizens from owning guns, as only police officers were allowed to carry firearms. Those who already owned guns were allowed to keep them only if they were disassembled or trigger-locked. Trigger locks could only be removed if the owner received permission from the D.C. police, which was rare.
According to prosecutor Jeffrey Shapiro, the results were not good. Annual homicides rose from 188 in 1976 to 364 in 1988, and then increased even further to 454 in 1993. The gun ban was struck down by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, and homicides have steadily declined since then to 88 yearly murders in 2012. While Shapiro admits that there were other factors involved with the decline in homicides, lifting the gun ban clearly did not result in a rise in murder
Further, two studies prove gun control didn’t work in Britain or Australia. But we’ve said all this before. So then why do liberals cling to the same tired argument? Because they honestly don’t care one bit. For leftists, cries for gun control are a marketing scheme aimed at convincing voters they are the loving party for the people.
If liberals truly care about mass shootings and murder rates, why aren’t they screaming for more mental health care? That’s where we can make a real difference. Of course, liberals know nothing of problem solving or promise keeping. Thus, a plan of action which is actually effective and makes sense is completely unnecessary in the eyes of a leftist.
