In a strange move, Trump may have dismissed Sidney Powell. What’s going on?
Powell had become the “Fauci” of Trump’s legal team, only competent. She’s been the face of the team, which might be the reason she’s no longer on the team.
The abrupt shake-up came in a brief statement made just hours ago from this writing. In the statement, the Trump campaign offered no explanation for Powell’s removal.
“Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own,” Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis said in the statement. “She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.”
A friend of mine saw an earlier story and texted me for answers. I dismissed it. However, I did comment that I prefer Powell keep things a bit closer to her chest than she was doing in interviews. Perhaps the President felt Powell was revealing too much information?
In a statement, Powell indicated that she intends to keep litigating despite her separation from the Trump team:
“I agree with the statement today. I will represent #WeThePeople and seek the Truth. I intend to expose all the fraud and let the chips fall where they may. We will not allow the foundations of this great Republic to be destroyed by abject fraud or our votes for President Trump and other Republicans to be stolen by foreign interests or anyone else.”
I suspect that Powell’s style might have been a bit too aggressive for Giuliani. While Giuliani has attack dog tendencies, he is definitely more media savvy than Powell.
One thing is for sure, Powell knows how to draw media attention. Every media outlet wanted proof of her allegations. She was right to refuse. However, perhaps the president’s team felt the optics were bad.
