Romney’s Passive Aggressive Slap of Donald Trump

Finally, Mitt Romney didn’t disappoint. He announced that he’s not running for re-election.

His tweet is titled, “My message to Utahns on my Senate reelection plan:” However, the announcement proved to be much more.

In typical RINO fashion, Romney chose to attack a Republican with more ferocity than he attacks Democrats.

Romney highlighted his age as he announced his decision.

“I’ve spent my last 25 years in public service of one kind or another. At the end of another term, I’d be in my mid-80s,” Romney said.

“Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders. They’re the ones that need to make the decisions that will shape the world they will be living in.”

This is an obvious jab at Joe Biden. But he could toss in 81-year-old Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and 90-year-old Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. These two apparently plan to leave the Senate chambers in gurneys.

But as newly minted Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman proves, age ain’t nothin’ but a number. And you know who else proves this? Donald Trump. Back to him in a bit.

Butt-hurt Romney

Sadly, I supported Romney when he ran for president in 2012 against then-President Obama. Romney tried to become president again, but Trump derailed Romney’s trip to the White House, something he would never forget. Trump won the presidency in 2016 and Romney got the consolation prize when he was elected to the Senate in 2018.

In Congress, Romney enjoyed the role as one of former President Donald Trump’s few outspoken Republican critics. Later, Romney distinguished himself as the only Republican to vote to convict Trump following his first impeachment trial in early 2020.

In 2021, Romney joined six other Republican senators who voted to convict Trump following his second impeachment for allegedly inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

Trump rips Romney

Trump, 77, ripped Romney in an all-caps social media post celebrating his decision to retire as “fantastic news for America.”

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR AMERICA,THE GREAT STATE OF UTAH, & FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. MITT ROMNEY, SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS PIERRE DELECTO, WILL NOT BE SEEKING A SECOND TERM IN THE U.S. SENATE, WHERE HE DID NOT SERVE WITH DISTINCTION. A BIG PRIMARY FIGHT AGAINST HIM WAS IN THE OFFING, BUT NOW THAT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY. CONGRATS TO ALL. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
