Leftists Protest New WWII Movie over Lack of Diversity [VIDEO]
The upcoming Christopher Nolan war drama ‘Dunkirk’ has yet to hit theaters, but the film is already under attack.
The assault comes not from advancing German Panzers. But instead from overly entitled the most ignorant among us: millennial ‘Social Justice Warriors.’
Their complaint? The movie’s lack of diversity.
In Hollywood, where discrimination is legal? The career where you can be told you’re too fat or too skinny. Hollywood, where they openly say you’re too young or too old. You’re not “manly” enough. Hollywood can reject you for any reason with immunity, and now they cry for diversity.
As for Dunkirk, a bit of history.
For those that do not know World War II history, nearly 400 thousand Allied troops that remained of the British, Free-France, and Belgium forces were trapped on the beaches along the French-Belgian border by the German army. Not to spoil the movie for the uninformed, the events that happened next would become the stuff of legend.
Critics Praise The Film.
Rotten Tomatoes is giving the movie a 98% fresh ranking. Even the liberal news website The Slate praised:
The idea of a similarly grandiose re-enactment of one of military history’s largest-scale rescue operations seemed all but doomed to be elephantine. In addition, Nolan’s famously fertile imagination sounded potentially dangerous in combination with a true historical event incredible enough to require no dramatic embellishment.
In a radical move, Dunkirk entirely does away with the narrative scaffolding that holds together most war pictures: the introduction, at boot camp or in battle, of a crew of soldierly comrades. The scenes of military higher-ups debating strategy over maps. The cutaways to families waiting back home or flashbacks to the combatants’ prewar days. Instead, the film plunges us straight in medias res, or rather in the middle of several different res: Dunkirk follows stories unfolding in three separate places not at the same time but in three overlapping time frames: one lasting a week, one a day, and one only an hour.
The UK Guardian added:
This is a powerful, superbly crafted film with a story to tell, avoiding war porn in favour of something desolate and apocalyptic, a beachscape of shame, littered with soldiers zombified with defeat, a grimly male world with hardly any women on screen.
It is Nolan’s best film so far. It also has Hans Zimmer’s best musical score: an eerie, keening, groaning accompaniment to a nightmare, switching finally to quasi-Elgar variations for the deliverance itself.
21st Century SJWs Attack
In May 1940 with his back against the waters of the English Channel and one million German soldiers closing in, the last thing on British Commander Lord Gort’s mind was the cultural diversity of the racial/ethnic/sexual orientation/gender identity of his soldiers on the beach.
However, the Millennial snowflakes took note, and brandished their revisionism on one of history’s great turning points. Canadian publication the Sherbrook Times observed:
On social media, Dunkirk was booed by trolls outraged that the film tells a story too white…No matter that this event has been crucial in the history of humanity, regardless of the famous speech of Winston Churchill (We shall fight on the beaches), regardless of whether these young people were fleeing the Nazi forces, not the account, it is to denounce the fact that there were no Black people, of Latinos, of Asians on the beaches of Dunkirk.
NEWSFLASH: while Britain did have several African colonies and numerous African soldiers within their military, most were fighting the German and Italian forces in North and East African Campaigns during the war.
Likewise, the United States would not enter the war until December 1941, so there would not be any Hispanic or Asian troops on the beaches of Western Europe in May 1940.

Victory Girl admonished these ‘history experts’ on her blog:
Whom did British and Allied forces fight against? Fascists, right? Which means that the “white guys” on the beach were the original “antifa.” Do the social justice types consider that?
Identity politics and historical ignorance have created a terrible blindness when too many people can’t see that courage comes in all colors. But how long can cultures last when their people lose their knowledge of history, and instead trade it for tribalism?
Institutionalized Ignorance
These SJWs are not to blame for their lack of depth of knowledge on history. Modern education standards over the last 20-plus years have gradually de-emphasized the importance of history, and civics in general. Instead “education” favors Social Justice ideology.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel opined:
Except for occasional alarms raised by scholarly commissions, the waning of U.S. history and civics as subjects taught in public schools has received little attention in education reform debates. Now, national report cards are littered with failing grades in basic civic knowledge, and that should be cause for deep concern.
While such initiatives have merit, the latest editions of what’s known as The Nation’s Report Card suggest the flimsy grasp American public-school students demonstrate on fundamental facts and concepts of American history and civics constitutes every bit as urgent a crisis in learning, with long-term national implications that cut just as deeply.
Just as problematic as a lack of formal history training is the proliferation of a radical strain of “social-justice multiculturalism” prevalent in many university schools of education. Its practitioners call on future teachers to question “oppressive” American societal influences rather than teaching students a basic knowledge of their nation’s history and foundations in representative democracy.
In the end, the fact that tax dollars are going to bolster radical multiculturalist agendas at the expense of more substantive professional-development learning is both a symptom and a cause of the poor understanding of American history and civics. But it is evidence of misplaced priorities, and crucial resources, needed to address a growing crisis.
Actor Richard Dreyfuss raised similar concerns in a discussion with Fox News host Tucker Carlson this past April.
Mr. Dreyfuss’ five-minute homily has to be heard to be appreciated:
I want to mention one thing.
You were talking about the speakers on university campuses. And I am totally, incontrovertibly on your side about this.
I think any intrusion into freedom of speech is an intrusion into freedom of speech. And when one of the presidents of one of the colleges said, ‘this is a school, not a battlefield,’
I said, no, it is a battlefield of ideas and we must have dissonant, dissenting opinions on campuses and I think it’s political correctness taken to a nightmarish point of view.
Keep in mind that Richard Dreyfuss was a dye-in-the-wool leftist in years gone by. Yet, he continues,
I have withdrawn from partisan politics.
I am a constitutionalist who believes that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights must be central and the parties must be peripheral. What’s most important for me is what you just mentioned haphazardly, we are over 30. Civics has not been taught in the American public school system since 1970. And that means everyone in Congress never studied the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as you and I might have.
And that is a critical flaw because it’s why we were admired and respected for so long, it gives us our national identity, it tells the world who we are and why we are who we are, and without a frame that gives us values that stand behind the Bill of Rights, we’re just floating in the air and our sectors of society are not connected.
Dreyfuss tries to save his past, by blaming both sides. However it’s clear that he knows he’s been wrong for years.
What’s really important is that the assumptions of the Left and the Right are all skewed wrong. We have to find areas of agreement and areas that we share. And we do share the notion that education accomplishes certain things. One, it turns students into citizens. And, two, it teaches students how to run the country before it’s their turn to run the country. And, three, it teaches the values of this nation.
People come from all over the world or are born into this nation without the values that we have here. That’s why they came here, to get them. And what are they? You can put them in opportunity, rise by merit, mobility, and freedom. That’s what we sell. And if you don’t want that, you’ve chosen the wrong place. And you don’t get a pass by being born here, you have to learn it. Even the Ten Commandments are not known at birth. You must learn them. And we must learn our values and if we don’t, we are fatally, fatally wounding ourselves. We will not have any way to really combat the ideas behind ISIS because we won’t know our own. And we have to.

Leftists need to learn to deal with the facts, just as they did in Glory. Or we will see the next version of the Tuskegee Airmen will inaccurately be depicted in “a socially diverse and tolerant” manner.
