When Kamala Harris doesn’t have something else in her mouth {ahem}, she puts her foot in it. And she didn’t disappoint recently.
While addressing a class at George Mason University, Harris revealed her anti-Semitism.
The New York Post reported on Harris’ attempt at damage-control with pro-Israel Democrats. At the event, Harris praised a college student who accused the Jewish state of committing “ethnic genocide.”
Harris was in northern Virginia to mark National Voter Registration Day or what should be called, “National Illegal Voter Day. Afterwards, Harris called on students for questions.
A student who identified herself as “part-Yemeni, part-Iranian” spoke up. In her comment, she claimed that “a lot of taxpayer money is allocated for funding the military, whether it’s in backing Saudi Arabia or in Palestine.”
“You brought up how the power of the people and demonstrations and organizing is very valuable in America,” the woman told Harris.
“But I see that over the summer, there have been, like, protests and demonstrations in astronomical numbers standing with Palestine, but then just a few days ago there were funds allocated to continue backing Israel, which hurts my heart because it’s an ethnic genocide and a displacement of people — the same that happened in America — and I’m sure you’re aware of this,” she added
The student said she felt the US was ignoring protests even though Harris had been discussing the power of demonstrating.
Harris assured the student that she sympathized with her views, responding:
“Your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth cannot be suppressed, and it must be heard.”
One must ask whether Harris actually knows the difference between Palestine and Israel. Because this definitely was not the moment to use a canned reassuring response.
Various media outlets in Israel condemned Harris’ comments.
The Jerusalem Post and The Times of Israel ran headlines like, “Kamala Harris doesn’t reject US student’s ‘ethnic genocide’ claim against Israel,” according to Politico.
David Friedman, the former US ambassador to Israel, denounced Harris’ statements, writing on Twitter:
“Shameful. There is truth and there are lies. No one is entitled to their personal truth. This attack on Israel is simply a lie and VPOTUS should have called that out.”
Harris’ comments were shameful. As a so-called leader, Harris had a specific role to play in this scenario. The VP should’ve schooled the student. Instead Harris let a true opportunity slip through her fingers.
