I’m overjoyed that Americans continue to boycott the fake news media. This correction is long overdue, as we witnessed media malpractice for decades.
Now that the media did its part in The Big Cheat, they now experience the fallout. The media continue to lose massive audiences. In fact, this drop started months ago.
Fox News topped the June viewership figures as well as the second quarter ratings, but all of the news networks continued to show steep declines in a post-election, post Donald Trump presidency news environment.
In primetime, Fox News topped with an average of 2.13 million viewers, compared to 1.31 million for MSNBC and 798,000 for CNN. Compared to the same month a year earlier, Fox News was off 42%, MSNBC was down 36% and CNN dropped 57%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News drew an average of 329,000, down 50%; compared to 179,000 for CNN, falling 68%; and 166,000 for MSNBC, off by 48%.
In total day, Fox News averaged 1.17 million in total viewers, down 35%; MSNBC posted 763,000, down 37% and CNN was at 580,000, down 49%. In the 25-54 demo, the numbers were 195,000 for Fox News, down 42%, 133,000 for CNN, falling 59% and 99,000 for MSNBC, dropping by 48%.
Fast forward to November:
Fox News topped viewership again in November, with Tucker Carlson Tonight returning to its perch as the cable news’ top show among total viewers.
Carlson’s show averaged 3.67 million viewers, followed by The Five with 3.51 million, Hannity with 3.23 million, Special Report with Bret Baier at 2.77 million and The Ingraham Angle with 2.66 million.
In the adults 25-54 demo, Tucker Carlson Tonight averaged 651,000, followed by The Five with 557,000, Hannity at 541,000, Special Report with Bret Baier at 475,000 and The Ingraham Angle with 469,000.
All of the cable networks, however, saw declines in viewership compared to last November, highlighted by the presidential election and its aftermath. The declines were significant and even steep in some categories.
As you can see, although Fox News continues to lead the other networks, they too experienced a massive and well-deserved drop in viewership throughout the year.
In primetime, Fox News averaged 2.58 million total viewers, which was down 35% from the same period a year earlier. MSNBC averaged 1.09 million total viewers, down 59%, and CNN was at 654,000, off by 77%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 420,000, down by 49%, followed by CNN with 148,000, off by 84%, and MSNBC with 140,000, down 74%.
In total day, Fox News averaged 1.54 million, down 20%, followed by MSNBC with 660,000, off by 58%, and CNN with 495,000, falling 72%. In the 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 264,000, down 36%, CNN had 108,000, falling 81%, and MSNBC was at 78,000, down 74%.
These numbers are dwindling daily, and for many viewers, cable news is simply obsolete.
Trump Weighs In:
By now, Trump knows two things. One: He has an awful lot to do with the continuing crash and burn of the cable news networks. And two: Fox wasn’t quite the friend they pretended to be. While Fox does have some hard-core conservatives on board, they also have a host of fence-sitting fakers. Those who pretend to be conservatives, but will jump ship at any moment if the price is right.
In June, Trump issued a statement addressing cable news:
Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America |
I am proud to inform you that the Lamestream Media has hit the lowest approval ratings ever recorded. I think it would be fair to assume that I had something to do with that. They are not only dishonest and corrupt, they are truly, according to a recent poll, the enemy of the people. In a similar category, CNN’s ratings are down a whopping, and record-setting, 79% and likewise, horrible numbers at MSDNC (Joe Scarborough and his lovely wife, Mika, are at record lows). These developments are great news for the American People! |
The fact that ratings continue to spiral is a testament to the level at which Americans are fed up with lies and propaganda. Of course, watching CNN fire Chris Cuomo while Chris Wallace left Fox to go to CNN+ promises to draw in a few viewers. But they won’t stick around long, because the content just isn’t there.
What to expect:
Moving forward, millions of Americans will turn to independent media outlets such as Newsmax and the Kevin Jackson radio show, because they’re hungry for the cold hard truth. And it’s clearly disappeared from cable news.
