FLASHBACK: How Trump Handled Iran

During the Trump administration, Iran begged for buttermilk. Trump kept the Iranians on tilt.

I wrote this article years ago knowing how Trump would deal with Iran. Not as a hothead, but very measured.

At the time, Democrats wanted President Donald Trump to blast Iran for shooting down our drone. I called it a “setup”, as those who called Trump “unhinged” wanted him to start a war.

Below is part of the original article.

Democrats hoped Trump would overreact and blast Iran into next week. But he sniffed out the ruse, and instead provided a measured response.

What would Obama have done? Probably sent the Iranians a few billion dollars in the middle of the night? And he would have been praised to high Heaven.

If Trump were dealing with sane people, they would laud his response as well. The fact that Trump chose not to kill 150 people as the generals speculated, and possibly injure many more is presidential. But not for the lunatic Leftists.

Believe it or not, Democrats goaded Trump. Some in effect called him chicken for not attacking Iran. Yes, Democrats attacked the man they accused of being a warmonger for not going to war. Oh, the irony.

Because Democrats wanted Trump to go to war.

An attack on Iran would have brought an attack on Trump. Thus, Democrats would have sided with Iran. And you can bet the media stood ready to show the carnage. I wouldn’t be surprised if CNN had war correspondents on the ground with the pre-staged bodies covered in bloody sheets. Note to self: check to see if any Hollyweird special effects makeup artists got visas for Iran recently.

But Trump didn’t bite. Instead he launched a cyberattack, supposedly shutting down Iran’s missile systems. If that’s the case, what a lesson to teach the rogue regime. Essentially Trump’s message would be, “If we want to attack you, you won’t have the ability to defend yourself.”

Get this mug here only!

But again, Trump didn’t attack; he just warned.

No need to remove the nuclear football from the “unhinged” Donald Trump. Because he acted deliberately, and dare I say presidential.

But Trump went further, as Fox News reports:

President Trump struck back Monday at Iran by issuing “hard-hitting” financial sanctions against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his associates.

“Today’s action follows a series of aggressive behaviors by the Iranian regime in recent weeks including shooting down a U.S. drone,” the president said in the Oval Office, calling Khamenei “responsible for the hostile conduct of the regime.”

Trump said the sanctions “will deny the supreme leader and the supreme leader’s office and those closely affiliated with him and the office access to key financial resources and support.” Speaking to reporters in the White House briefing room Monday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the sanctions “lock up literally billions of dollars more of assets.”

“Along with that action today, we are also announcing specific actions targeting those responsible for recent activities,” Mnuchin said, adding that the president has instructed him to sanction Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif “later this week.”

The Treasury Department, in a news release, said “any foreign financial institution that knowingly facilitates a significant financial transaction for entities designated under this Executive Order could be cut off from the U.S. financial system.”

How many times does Trump have to act with America’s economic power to prove that he knows how to fight and win wars?

If you want to fight Iran, weaken their infrastructure. Get them fighting each other. And that’s what Trump has done for over 2 years.

I documented a while back the situation in Iran:

In all, during the period there were over 142 protests in cities across Iran. And even more shocking, protests happened in all Iranian provinces. In the protests, over 8,000 Iranians were arrested, with estimates that about 50 were killed by the regime.

Then in Feb 2018 in the southwest region of Iran, Arabs protested about the regime. Although the protests were stamped out by the regime, that didn’t stop additional protests.

In fact, only a month later in March 2018 farmers in Ispahan protested over water.

Essentially water that flowed to farmers for generations were dammed by elitists put in power by the Mullahs. The water was diverted by the IRGC, and Iran’s largest salt lake dried to 5 percent of its previous level.

A restaurant recently advertised to hire dishwashers. With unemployment over 35 percent with under 30-year olds in Iran, it’s no surprise that over 150 people applied. But what’s most surprising who applied.

Shockingly, 30 of the applicants held PhDs. However, even more telling about the Iranian economy has to do with its currency.

About four months ago, the Iranian rial traded at about 35,000 to $1 U.S. Not long after, the currency valued around 60,000 to $1 U.S.

But the value of the rial has plummeted almost daily going from 70,000 to 80,000, and quickly 100,000 to $1 U.S.

To recap, over 4 months, the Iranian rial has lost over 65 percent of its value, with most of the devaluation coming over the past couple of weeks. So why the acceleration?

While the rial appears to have settled, don’t believe the Forex market. Goods and services still cost a fortune, as the economy in Iran continues to spiral. And with the new sanctions, things will worsen.
